Anchor Hotel

Anchor Hotel

8/10 Good
"The Anchor was a convenient stay for us as we needed to be close to the ferry to take us to Isla. The staff were very pleasant and check-in was easy. Parking was across the street and convenient as well. The rooms are very small and dated but clean and comfortable. There is a pub next door and many people were enjoying the World Cup so it got pretty noisy but we were able to sleep. We had a fabulous dinner in the Anchor's restaurant. I have a shellfish allergy and they were able to accommodate. Tarbert is a wee fishing town so there isn't much going on but we enjoyed walking around and climbed the hill to see the old castle which gave spectacular views. We wandered in a few shops and had nice chats with everyone. Breakfast was spectacular and we left for Isla well rested and ready for our journey. Thank you!"

When is the best time to go to Taynish?
The best time to visit Taynish is during the spring or early summer months, specifically from April to June, or in the autumn throughout September and October.Spring and early summer offer longer daylight hours and generally milder weather, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the Taynish National Nature Reserve. The reserve is particularly known for its ancient oak woodlands, which are stunning when the trees are in full leaf. Wildlife, including various bird species and red squirrels, are more active and visible during these months. This period is superb for couples or solo travellers who enjoy walking, photography, and nature observation.Autumn, especially September and October, provides a different but equally rewarding experience. The woodlands transform with beautiful autumnal colours, offering a dramatic backdrop for walks. The weather can be crisp and clear, and the midges (small biting insects) are typically less prevalent than in mid-summer.
