St Paul’s is a Church Of England church situated in the Georgian St Paul’s Square at the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. The building of the church started in 1777 and it was consecrated in 1779. The church has long played an important role in the spiritual life of the city. It still plays an active role with regular organ recitals and jazz concerts as well as screening classic Hollywood movies. If you have an interest in art, you will be drawn to the two impressive stained glass windows.St Paul’s also boasts the large ring of bells in the world, incorporating ten bells. The tenor bell alone is a hefty 641 kilogrammes in weight. If you visit on a Sunday, the bells ring out three times a day. Live music plays an important role in the life of the church and there are free organ recitals on the first Thursday of every month. The church also hosts Christmas concerts and is used as a venue during the city’s annual jazz festival. There are also regular screenings of classic Hollywood movies.
