Fond Doux Eco Resort

10/10 Excellent

"This is a unique resort to stay in and experience… truly eco and part of the landscape and an active cocoa plantation. Access to hiking is amazing and falling asleep to rainforest sounds- frogs, rain, etc.- is an experience you won’t get at other resorts. The cabins are private and have AC, mosquito nets for the bed (although we really didn’t need it), a decent sized fridge, coffee maker (amazing coffee!), electric kettle. The resort staff are absolutely wonderful! One of the owners talked with us on our last day, asked us about our trip and wanted to know what we liked and what could be improved. I’m sorry I don’t recall her name, but she’s wonderful and cares for the beautiful place she and her husband have created and wants to continuously improve on it for their customers. I have never experienced anything like that and it was a level of customer service that I think other resorts should aspire to. Here are my reasons for 4 stars instead of 5 for a few of the sections- cleaning and maintaining an eco resort in a rainforest must be an uphill challenge. Keeping that in mind, yes, our cabin needed some TLC in the bathroom (cracked sink, maybe some updating), but we had an outdoor shower! In the rainforest! I think there are some travelers for whom those details (the sink, etc) are important and then perhaps Fond Doux may not be the best choice for them. My family loved our stay. We’re especially grateful to the resort staff and drivers for sharing their island with us!"

"Nice hotel, nice views, perfect beach for swimming with no sargassum (unlike the south coast that got whacked). Of note; almost all rooms require the shuttle. It is well run and wait times are usually only a couple minutes, occasionally up to 10 minutes. It does however provide an additional barrier between the room and the beach. Restaurants are pretty good, on par with other Caribbean islands, not 5 stars but good enough. The prices are reasonable (despite negative reviews about it, they are on par with or US cities). The portion sizes, particularly on the appetizers, need to be increased, some are embarrassingly small."

"The daily breakfast buffet was very tasty and included a variety of proteins, carbs, fruit, custom omelets, and hot (natural) cocoa or ginger tea. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The room was very clean, but the AC did not work initially. However, the staff fixed the issue once we told them about it. The resort is at a prime location in Rodney Bay (towards the north of the island); it is a short (5-10 minute) walk to a variety of restaurants, the beach, the mall, and the supermarket. Also very easy access to the local bus and taxis. The shuttle service from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) is an extra charge, but be sure to contact the hotel days before your trip. Also keep in mind that the major attractions (like the Pitons, drive-in volcano, sulphur springs, and waterfall are in the south of the island and would incur additional travel costs."
