Independent, Luxuries in Shanghai

Can't turn on TV. Waited for a long time for assistance after two calls to room service. Finally came and not trained fit using the equipment. Terrible.

Its tight next to the river and close to the bund. The cool docks are right next door and has a number of good bars and restaurants. The docks are still being developed but there is already some really great places there. The ferry to cross the river is 50 metres away.

I have been staying here for some years. I've written reviews before and now I'm doing it again because this hotel just keeps delivering the best hotel experience I have had anywhere in the world and I do travel extensively. In some respects it is quirky, but in a very nice way that makes it more endearing and my home away from home. I take this opportunity to also thank the hotel manager Serge van Vegten. You are in a class of your own. Well done!

Nice hotel. Feels a bit like the Bulgari in Milano but not quite there yet. Spacious rooms and very nice lobby.

Room was advertised as a 2 bedroom ... But it is actually a 1 bedroom with a small study that has a very small couch that pulls out into a bed. Unless your children are toddlers, this room is too small for more than 3 people. Staff u derstood our concern and allowed adjustments to our stay ... I hope Marriott and Expedia can improve the room descriptions.

The hotel is beautiful and classy and conveniently right on the Bund. Check-in was swift and easy. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious, We stayed in the Shanghai Studio rooms. The bed was very comfortable, soft but firm; there were 4 king-size pillows provided. Also plenty of free bottled water. Restrooms are Western-style (this is important in China, you may get a squatting toilet instead of a sitting toilet in some hotels), and the toilets were washlet (warm water shoots out to wash your bum at the touch of a button). The water pressure in the shower was an excellent full spray. Internet service was speedy, though my VPN did not always manage to connect. The hotel staff will provide assistance to use their VPN if you don't have one of your own. The staff was consistently friendly, polite and helpful, especially with providing written Chinese directions for cab drivers, making telephone calls for us in Chinese, and translating random Chinese things we could not decipher, like alerts on our phone!

We only stayed for 2 nights, but we were very happy with the hotel. The staff were attentive and helpful. The room and bathroom were a great size (we got an upgrade) and it really felt like a treat staying there. The location was good for getting out and about and the hotel was pretty easy to find. We didn't use the hotel facilities, so I can't comment on those. One thing I would suggest to the hotel is to provide a few extra complimentary tea bags.

Very nice hotel in a great location. The rooms are plenty big and the bathroom is a good size too. The view is not particular good from this hotel because it isn't tall enough. You don't need a great view because everything is right outside the hotel. The Bund 15 min. People Square 15min. The breakfast is only down side. It is too expensive and not really worth the money. I stay at hotels with better and cheaper breakfasts. It is convenient but in my opinion too costly (RMB 180). Two blocks away you find an excellent cafe (Called EQ) and also good Chinese breakfast. I highly recommend this hotel because it is one of the best Chinese hotels that I have stayed at.

The room tended to be dark and needed more or better placed lighting. There were no doors separating the washroom and the lack of hooks made access to towels a bit awkward. Otherwise, the suite was spacious and nice.

One night only, but after a long flight from Melbourne, this hotel was luxurious. Staff were excellent, spoke English, and we're very helpful for navigating the local surroundings. The room was large, consisting of a lounge/study with comfortable furniture, a large bedroom with comfortable bed, and a bathroom with double bath. Excellent breakfast catering for Chinese and western style of food. Location very close to fast train to airport and metro. Highly recommended.
