Il Palazzotto

Il Palazzotto

10/10 Excellent
"This is one of those rare places where the hospitality outshines even the incredible setting. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like guests in someone's home rather than a hotel — warm, genuinely attentive, and full of insider tips on the best spots in the Sassi to catch sunset, where to eat, and how to navigate Matera's winding stone streets. The rooms themselves are beautiful, carved into the historic Sassi with all the atmosphere you'd hope for. Clean, functional, spacious, comfortable. If you're visiting Matera, stay here."

Sextantio Le Grotte Della Civita

10/10 Excellent
"If you're debating whether to visit Matera as a day trip or stay overnight, this hotel alone is reason enough to stay. We loved every moment and would return in a heartbeat. Sextantio Le Grotte Della Civita in Matera was one of the most unique and unforgettable hotels we've ever stayed in. The property is a beautifully restored series of caves that blend old-world charm with just the right amount of modern comfort, making you feel like you've stepped back in time while still having everything you need. The staff went above and beyond throughout our stay.. from arranging pickup at the parking garage to carrying our luggage to our room, to being incredibly communicative before and during our visit. Dinner and breakfast at the on-site restaurant were both stunning, and after five trips to Italy, we can honestly say the breakfast spread and setting here might be the best we've ever had in the country. - Matt & Monique"

"The view from the door entrance was outstanding probably the best part of this hotel. Breakfast was also great with good and plenty to choose from. Didn't know the spa was separately charged so cannot say it was a great feature. Wifi could be better. We walked down to the hotel but suggest to ask for the shuttle which was very nice."
