"Room was comfortable, other than the bed being very low, almost as if it was a mattress on the floor. Very friendly and helpful staff - allowed us to check in very early and they gave us a Togo breakfast because we needed to depart before they served their standard breakfast"

"I don't often wax lyrical about the very many stays I have had in hotels and b and bs around the world but Conche Luxury Retreat, in the historic centre of Matera, is absolutely worthy of the highest praise. For a start, even before your arrival, the attentive host Carla contacts you to find out how you are getting to Matera and then works with you to make sure you know exactly how to find this absolute gem of a hotel nestling right in the centre of this Unesco World Heritage Site. On arrival you are taken to a beautifully and tastefully appointed former cave house, now hotel room, and greeted with aperitifs and snacks. And the experience just gets better. Breakfast each morning is an absolute feast -setting you up for the day ahead. Matera itself is simply jaw-droppingly stunning - literally like no other place on earth. I cannot recommend a visit to the city enough and if so, staying at the exceptional Conche Luxury Retreat to make the experience complete."

"I would give the service at this place 10 stars out of 5 if I could! We arrived at some random bus stop in the bottom of town because their main station is closed for remodeling, so I didn't really know where we were when I called the shuttle. Nino just asked me the name of the street & came to get us. By the next morning, we had fallen in love with the town and changed our itinerary for the rest of the trip to spend more time in Matera, but they didn't have space for us to stay longer. They called around and found us a place at another amazing hotel. When it was time to check out, they had it all arranged to simply simply transfer our bags and pick up new keys at the other hotel. As for the hotel itself, the rooms were huge, clean and very unique. Very cool hotel in an amazing town. "

"Matera is not the easiest place to get to in first place. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to change plans and arrived by coach bus instead of rental car. The hotel contacted us a couple days before our check in and once they learned about our change if plans, they helpfully pointed out to us that our bus station is actually quite a bit of distance from the hotel. They then booked a taxi for us that waited at the bus station and took us straight into the restricted area inside the old town that saved us a lot of walking while carrying our luggages. Upon arrival, they clearly explained to us all the must sees, how to get to them and recommended food places. The room itself is just a spectacular experience. We booked the cave room for the experience and it was huge. Certainly gave us the unique experience that we were hoping for."
