Good value for money
Not really a hotel, as there are no facilities like restaurant or bar, but our room was basic, but pleasant enough. We were facing the street and had big windows, so it was light and airy, but, from what I could glimpse from the inside rooms, they were a lot smaller and darker. Very good value for money, though, as Santiago is expensive and after all, there is a lot to see and do, so very little time is spent in room anyway. Good distance from cathedral (main attraction) and old town. And very near bus and train station. Also plenty of little cafés nearby, for breakfast etc.

Hidden gem!
Great place! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious, quiet, and the bed was SUPER comfortable! Easy walking to old town. The neighborhood has lots of supermarkets, shops, and restaurants nearby. We were there on a rainout day, and there was a great pool hall one block away to pass the rainy afternoon. Good burger restaurant across the street. Highly recommend!

Last night in Santiago before taking the train
Typical, pleasant, small private room perfect for the end of the pilgrimage when needing quick or early access to the train/bus station. Clean, friendly and easy night entry even after the reception closes. Quiet, never heard any of the neighbours. Fan in the room which was nice given the heat of the late summer.

Good stay easy 50m walk to train station.
Great place for a short overnight stay. Arrival a breeze. Staff don’t speak English well but managed well. Room is basic but having to remember it’s cheap and location for us to train station is perfect. Only a short 10 minute walk to cathedral area. Will be happy to stay again next year when doing another Camino.

Nice little hotel for short stay over
Its nice the staff are a pleasure. Close to the trian station. Nice little restaurants and shops around. Buses available everyone around very nice. Overall the hotel a pleasure to stay The only down is you can hear people talking next door.

Our stay at Rey Fernando was great. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, gave us directions, booked our taxi, and gave tips on where to go in Santiago to help make visit even more memorable. It was a bit farther from the cathedral than our tired feet (after the Camino) had hoped for but the walk was very manageable. I would book again.

hot and noisy
This hotel is located on one floor of a multistoried building. The staff is very nice and helpful and the room was clean and had everything I required except a quiet place to actually sleep. I am a light sleeper apparently and the noise from the other floors went long into the night - as is the norm in that part of the world. There is no air conditioning and in the spring/summer in Spain it is much needed. It was incredibly hot during my stay and leaving the windows closed was not an option which only increased the noise level. Wifi was good at times - best in the common area.

Best Place To Stay
The staff and owners are wonderful, warm people who will make you feel at home instantly! They let me store my luggage, after flying into Santiago, staying a couple days with them before heading out to start the Camino in Sarria; then to walk back to Santiago. They didn't charge a storage fee. All the other sights of Santiago are a short walk, or bus ride away. Train station is two blocks away. Many restaurants and market very nearby. Great coffee and continental breakfast for nominal fee. They go out of their way to guide you, and give you directions to anywhere you want to visit in town.

The parking is free but the security is rather awkward and tedious. The location was just over 2km from the Cathedral on a quiet street. There aren't many food options in the immediate vicinity, but there are many within 15 minutes walk.

Pretty tired.
Difficult to find. Hotel is in a residential building but no signage I could find to say the hotel lobby was on the 6th floor. Book a single room, got a room with three beds but no chair or table. Tired and needs update. Just clean enough.

Average hotel in a decent place
It's a very average and aged hotel in a strategically good place - a minute walk from train station and 10-15 minutes to the city center. Room walls are quite thin, so the comfort of your sleep will heavily depend on your neighbors. Rooms are clean but everything inside is showing it's age. All in all, if you are looking for a night or two in Santiago with an intention to return to hotel only to sleep and rest and don't expect a lot, this might be a good choice.

The bathroom floor got flooded after taking a shower, and it didn't dry during our one night stay at the hotel. The hotel was quite empty, but you could still hear everything that was said and done in the close-by rooms. It's ok for one night, but that's it.

Staying awhile after walking the El Camino?
I finished the camino faster than expected and had a few extra days to play. I chose the Hotel Rey Fernando strictly for its location to begin, however, I have been completely surprised and inspired by their willingness of the reception staff to help. They gave me a great rate for this area, showed me how to get to the train station which is 5 minutes walk..very convenient if you are traveling elsewhere as I did and they even kept most of my backpack gear so I didn't have to lug it to Porto, Portugal. I just returned a day early, the staff remembered me and immediately made space for me. Also, all my belongings including my iPad, four compostellas and hiking gear where returned intact and clearly not messed with. Today, is the World Cup Finals and I didn't want to deal with the crowds so the staff recommended I order in Chinese (can't believe it) and stay in the lounge to watch the game. Great location, lovely staff and less than 10 minutes walk to the cathedral where I have spent the day but the nights are too noisy, crowded and expensive. Consider Hotel Rey Fernando if you aren't afraid to walk an extra few minutes to the historic district and have quality service. ASIDE: The shower in the bathroom fell off the hook and sprayed the ceiling. I was worried about this and today the ceiling was all clean, Someone had to work to get to that. Thank you to the very friendly and kind staff. You made my extra days extra nice.

This is very good value for money and a great location for catching the train. One of the staff spoken English well and was very helpful. The only negative is the noise from people coming in late and night.
