We stayed for two days. On Expedia, the hotel was advertised as dog-friendly. We checked in with our dog. 2 days later, upon checkout, the hotel slapped $100 dog charge on us. We were not made aware of this charge prior to checking in, as there was no mention of it on the Expedia. As I informed the clerk of this fact, I was told that I needed not to have relied on Expedia and looked on the hotel website. Not only does the staff not know the meaning of « hidden charge », their idea of customer service is quite deficient. The haggled for everything, from breakfast to a bottle of water. And this after we paid the $250 per night! Not recommending this hotel, and planning to dispute the hidden dog charge. Small-time pettiness is their philosophy.

Renovated room with a Murphy bed. Very clean and a good sized room. However the Murphy bed did not go up so we had one desk chair and the bed to sit on. Also the drains in the bathroom drained very very slowly. There is a clear glass table in a sitting area in the lobby that's kind of hard to see if you are not looking directly at it. I end up falling over it cutting and bruising my shin.

4th floor is cluttered with furniture, including both sides of the door to the room. Fire exits difficult to access. Impossible to get a room on another floor nor a refund. We did not feel safe and left to stay somewhere else.

The location is fantastic - in downtown Chicoutimi with a breathtaking view of the Saguenay River. Be sure to book a river view room. Also close to shops and restaurants. However, the hotel was under construction. The first room I was placed in was right in a construction zone - so I requested a different room. They accommodated the request and relocated me to a room on a higher floor away from the construction. Accessibiity is an issue -- lots of stairs at the entrances. It is a historical hotel in a beautiful city -- once the renovations are complete, I'm sure all will be back on track.

The staff was extrêmement friendly and nice. Quick to respond and quick to help. The rooms are clean but the bathrooms are dated. My room faced the street and it was loud (Friday night). Not the fault of the hotel but still I woke up

Best location and friendly front desk staff!
This is my 2nd stay at Hotel Chicoutimi, which means I enjoyed it the first time. I love the location and the front desk staff was super friendly. This time, however, a few things proved disappointing: (a) the room had a funny smell (no idea what); (b) the small waste basket next to the coffee maker was full of garbage from the previous stay(s); (c) I ran into a cleaning staff person on my way to the elevator, said good morning, and in return I met with silence and a stone-cold face; and (d) the decoration in the hallway on the third floor makes you feel like the entire floor is under renovation (to be honest, I was not sure what was going on with that). I will still return to the hotel, but I hope that these negatives are not there to stay.

Our reception staff is at your disposal, do not hesitate to call them, if certain things do not suit you in the room, they will immediately find a solution or fix the situation.Regarding our third floor. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on the point of view, you are right. We are currently under renovation. Our hotel is historic and we are in the process of giving it a modern touch. We do our best to ensure that the renovations do not disturb our guests. We are once again sorry for the situation and we are happy to learn that we will have the chance to welcome you among us again and convince you that it was an isolated incident.

Hotel was ok, but no reception counter just a table as reception. Receptionist seemed disturbed at check in time. Stayed 2 nights, but room was not serviced so no coffee for 2nd morning, couldn’t print a hotel receipt as it would take 5 minutes. I’ll try a different hotel in the area next time!

Average old and very unsuited for a wheelchair
I’m recently out of a severe accident and into a wheel chair. I specifically called to ask for accessibility levels and was told: « there’s a ramp to get into the hotel and you be able to go everywhere within the hotel ». Then i asked about the bathroom and was told there will be no issue getting inside but there is no bars inside to help with mobility. That was acceptable for me until i got there … after i got into the room i realized it was very old and i could not get into the bathroom. After a lot of calls with the reception we came up with a « solution » where i could transfert into the desk chair on which i could then transfert into a plastic bench to shower. The main issue was the age of the plumbing… the water in the shower would change temperature on it’s own depending on usage in adjacent rooms… this led to me being burnt on the legs … the burns went away after 4-5h but all in all … not a good experience.

Great hotel, but be aware of you reserve
The hotel was great, but I have one comment d’or the people reserving to be aware of. The room that I reserved online was a 2 queen bed, and described as 480 sqft with a separate sitting area. Although the room we were assigned to was a room with 2 queen beds, the size of the room seemed closer to a 280 sqft, with no separate sitting arrangement. When I asked the reception, the agent had no idea about the size of our room. At the end, it was ok for us, but in case it matters to you, just be aware that what you get may be different than what you reserve.
