For a truly memorable stay in Quoyloo, the best area to stay is along the coastal road leading to the Broch of Gurness, particularly around the Bay of Skaill.

The Bay of Skaill area is home to the world-renowned Skara Brae, a Neolithic village that offers an unparalleled glimpse into ancient life. This area combines stunning coastal scenery with profound historical significance. You'll find a scattering of charming, often family-run guesthouses and a few larger, well-appointed hotels that make the most of the sea views. It's a peaceful spot, great for unwinding after a day of exploration.

Couples often find this area particularly appealing for its romantic setting and the opportunity for quiet walks along the beach at sunset. The proximity to Skara Brae and the dramatic cliff-top paths around the bay provide plenty of opportunities for shared experiences and breathtaking photos. Many accommodations here offer excellent dining options with local produce.

For families, staying near the Bay of Skaill means easy access to outdoor activities and educational experiences. Children will be captivated by the ancient history of Skara Brae and the chance to explore the coastline.

The best time to go to Quoyloo is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is at its mildest and the days are long.

During this period, you'll experience the most comfortable temperatures for exploring the outdoors, with average highs around 15-18°C. The extended daylight hours, often lasting well into the evening, mean more time for sightseeing and enjoying the natural beauty of the Orkney Islands. This is ideal for those planning to visit sites like the Ring of Brodgar and Skara Brae, as well as enjoying coastal walks.

For travellers interested in wildlife, particularly birdwatching, late spring (May) and early autumn (September) can also be excellent. At these times, you might witness migratory birds and the puffins are still present on the cliffs around the Brough of Birsay. The weather can be a bit more unpredictable, but there are fewer crowds, offering a more tranquil experience.
