"We paid months ahead as with many other accommodations, which we've never had any issues with. This place was hard to find so we called to clarify directions, and we were told if we didn't have a 4x4 that it wasn't possible to get to (which was NOT mentioned on the booking site on Expedia) We were left to scramble and find a place to stay last minute which was inconvenient and cost a lot more. We were also informed we would be given the money back but months later we still haven't seen it. "

"Arrived and they didn’t have my reservation because of tech issues. Restaurant and bar closed, pool partially open, place not well maintained. Nice owner and we expected rusticness but place needs to be more traveler ready and accommodating. "

"The staff is wonderful. They are friendly and very helpful. The rooms are cute and clean. It’s fairly quiet at night. The property is 1 block from the beach and walking distance to other popular areas. Breakfast was simple. The fresh fruit was the highlight for me."
"The hotel was clean, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The pool area, bar, and restaurant were all very nice, and we enjoyed both dinner and breakfast during our stay.
However, there were several issues that made the experience disappointing. When booking through Hotels.com, the only option available was a jacuzzi suite, which was more expensive. Upon arrival, it appeared that other rooms were actually available, which made us feel like we were pushed into booking a higher-priced room unnecessarily.
The room itself felt very claustrophobic, with only a small vented window and no proper exterior window. The layout also raised safety concerns, as it required navigating a long hallway with no clear or quick exit in case of an emergency.
The biggest issue was that there was no hot water at all—not for the jacuzzi or even the shower—which made the main feature of the room unusable. Additionally, the room lacked basic functionality: there was nowhere to hang or store clothes (no hangers or closet space), only two hooks behind the door, and just a single chair and a small table. The loveseat in the room also had visible stains.
Overall, while some aspects of the hotel were enjoyable, the room itself and the lack of hot water made the stay disappointing."
"We stayed in Bella Leona apartments that definitely need updates (broken blinds, leaking flush valves, old mirrors, etc). The apartment complex was outside (around 1/2 mile) and it wasn’t easy to communicate with the staff when we needed, so be aware of that if you’re thinking of booking this apartment.
On the other hand, the resort is amazing, the staff is cordial and happy. It’s clean, the amenities are great and well maintained. The activities available are great (butterfly garden, guided hike and workout in the pool).
It’s almost 2 hours away from the airport. It was easy to drive there, but make sure you enter in ‘Leona beach club and resort’ entrance because the GPS indicated a non-paved road and wasn’t fun at all.
The food in the restaurants are good and not that expensive. They even have a grocery store in the resort with the same price range as the outside grocery stores.
In this resort you will be in touch with nature and it’s amazing to wake up with the sound of birds, seeing the macaws, iguanas and raccoons.
The beach is clean, no waves and warm water (we visited the hotel in April).
Overall it was a great experience."
"The room was implacable and all staff have been extremely friendly, polite and very attentive. The food was varied and very nice every day.
Good list of cocktails and the bar staff would also happily give you something that is not on the list or make all the twists you asked for, and they would remember you even though the resort was very busy.
Didn’t use the parking so cannot comment on that.
We had a perfect 8 night stay and would very happily return to the resort. "
"Fresh breakfast free daily. Eggs made to order waffles etc ect ect. Very quiet. Very good people staying there. Away far enough from the party on Jaco beach. Very safe. Even left my $200.00;pair of sneakers to dry in the sun. Still there when I returned. Very accommodating staff. Just commicate your needs and wants and it probably will happen. First time to Costa Rica and the people i met and the staff were extremely nice friendly and willing to share their experiences so you can make a decision on what you want to do. Awesome job pumilio staff. Very impressive. I have stayed atvthe waldorf in NYC and Hyatt grand central. And i received better service at pumilio Thank you again!"
"This hotel was family-friendly and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to book excursions through the hotel and spa services as well. There is an aviary on site with macaws, peacocks and other birds. The is a stable on site as well. We were able to go horseback riding on the beach. There are three restaurant choices in addition to the buffet and snack bar. Reservations need to be made a day in advance in order to have dinner at the steakhouse, sushi restaurant, and Italian restaurant. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there although it is quite far from the San Jose airport. It is a two hour drive on the toll road, one hour on the ferry and another 20-30 minutes to the resort. If you don’t mind the traveling, you should book there."
"Excellent location. Beautiful grounds and pools. Room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Service and food were excellent. It's a fantastic value for the price. I highly recommend this resort. I will go back there."
