Ninh Binh is well located only a short drive to the limestone rocks/forest areas and about 2.30 hours by bus to Hanoi Airport.The lake area in the city centre is delightful at night!

Tam Coc is closer to the tourist stuff you are likely in town for, Ninh Binh seemed swell enough... though our stay was during Tet so was largely closed.
"The hosts were extremely friendly and their granddaughter ( Camelia) was a great help in communicating in English. We experienced a typhoon while there which destroyed a lot of local fruit trees and left us without power for a few hours on the second night. All together a decent stay and on a side note transportation will be required if you need to eat out. "
"The property was peaceful and felt out of the way, but access to cars using Grab was always easy and fast, and inexpensive.
The hotel was helpful in arranging transportation from Hanoi airport to the hotel, and from the hotel to Hanoi Old Quarter, which was cheaper than four of us taking a bus.
The food was good, and the staff were incredibly friendly.
Our room was clean, with bottled water added every day. The AC doesn’t run when you aren’t in the room, so it’s hot when you get back after a day out, but the room cooled relatively quickly.
