Great enjoyable stay
Our second time after 5 years and it’s still as well maintained. We stayed on the lodge/ club side and enjoyed the views from our room. The bar is a favorite, and Japanese restaurant as well. Can skip breakfast if not a big eater- bakery seemed nice. Didn’t enjoy the Korean restaurant as much. Skiing was great! We were lucky to get one day of powder! Ask for Kim in ski school.

This property has everything you need for an enjoyable time, especially skiing and soaking in the onsen. The downside is not being able to explore outside the area freely as we were dependent on the hotel’s bus schedule the ride takes 30min to the train station. We also had difficulty communicating with some of the hotel staff, even though we spoke Japanese fluently! We understand their need to wear masks (sort of) but many times we just wished they spoke more clearly. All in all, we had a memorable time at Arai.

Check in was a lengthy process. We found that they could not seem to locate our bags and ski equipment that we sent ahead. They seemed disorganized and confused. Other guests in the lounge areas, dining room and onsen were very loud. Overall not very relaxing. The skiing was not great, as it was so warm, the conditions were bad. The food in the breakfast bugfet was good, but the non Japanese items on the dinner menu were not executed very well. Fairly tasteless yoshoku choices.

This property was very over rated. There was no microwave in the room which made it extremely difficult to eat snacks. I thought for the price of the room it was incredibly small. We paid less for more elsewhere in Japan. I was not impressed at all and will not be staying here in the future and will not recommend the hotel to any one I know.

Went with the kids. The hotel offers some classes for us to learn skiing or snowboarding. Stayed couple nights. Great experience. Would go to the same hotel if we ever go to Arai.

This was a great stay. The property was a bit dated and the rooms were older but the amenities were great. It’s not necessarily ski in ski out as you have to walk a bit to the lift. But overall it was a great experience. The hotel had a lot of foreigners that feigned absolute ignorance about the rules of the hotel. What was disappointing at breakfast you see the server telling you use gloves and mask when going to the buffet, and then you see a foreigner completely ignore those rules and uses his grubby hands to touch all the bread to choose one at the middle and toast it. Otherwise the stay was enjoyable.

ok for a short short ski trip
not very convenient to go out to town, town also has nothing much. shops and restaurants closed very early. So basically you are stuck in the hotel which doesn't have a lot of restaurants to choose from. Sushi counter has only a few seats available. korean restaurant and buffet is nice. so stay there for about 3 nights is enough

The staff in the front desk are very helpful. However, the staff at the ski center's information counter are not helpful at all. They are horrible in assisting and a customer in real need and they don't even return to the customer with an answer of update!!!!

Booked a superior trple twin room (for 2 adults and 2 kids 13 & 11), and the check in staff kept trying to give us a room with 3 single beds. It required intervention from the hotel manager to finally get the type of room we had actually booked. When we got to the room only had 3 sets of towels, Yukata, and toiletries. Breakfast was 12,000 JPY for 4 people and was not worth the money. I've had the same budget buffet breakfast in the business hotels for less than a 1/3 of the price. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, so you need to bring a lot of snacks, drinks, etc, or travel several kms to the nearest convenience store or further for shops. On the plus side, the hotel looks very new and is very clean. The kids activities are great, but a tad pricey.

Nice hotel but limited eating options and no Lawsons store, ATM etc. Ski mountain is disappointing for all but true powder hounds. Will not come back unless they open up more ski courses..

Very nice new self-contained resort, of much higher quality than most Ski resort accommodation in Japan, though would benefit from a few more facilities like a gym and a convenience store. There is a bus to take you to local shops but I was only there one night so didn't use. The skiing has limited runs but what there is is of good quality. Great onsen including outdoor bath. I tried to eat at the Korean restaurant without a reservation but was told it was full although several tables seemed to be available. Bakery was nice. Overall good for short skiing trips.

Worth a short ski trip
The resort is divided into 3 staying areas ie Hotel Arai, the Lodge and the Club. The room in the Lodge is big for 2 people. The Italian and Korean restaurants are generally good and so is the overall service. It has a hot spring in the hotel complex and you need to walk a little distance (with cover) if you are staying in the lodge or the club. Not much to do in the resort if you are not going up the hills for winter sport or going to the swimming pool. Ski pass and ski rental on site is a big pricey. The ski equipment on rental looks fairly new. If you are a beginner to intermediate skier, you may find the choice of routes a bit limited and maybe a bit boring after a few runs.

I was hesitant to stay at this resort because of mixed reviews read earlier. We found it to be a very lovely clean and new resort with friendly staff who if they could not understand english did their best to find someone who could! It was not overly crowded and in fact sometimes we were skiing by ourselves on the runs.. Its probably better for those who go off piste- there are only about 3-5 blue runs if you do not want to. Three day trip would probably be perfect. With respect to the dining and all the prices and charges for extras (like swimming!) in the resort I think that they will eventually hit on the right formula. It's not quite there yet. There is not much to do around on a no ski day. We used the hire equipment and it was practically brand new and had no problem. We did not use the ski school though so cannot comment. My summary is that the resort is nearly there. If the market is Australians or other Western countries they have to figure out what the families need with regard to food choices etc We had fun though so thanks Lotte Arai

Paying for privacy
The accommodations are overpriced and there's no options other than the hotel, but you're paying for privacy and sparsely populated slopes and it is worth it for the skiing. Things I wish I had known: - For breakfast, do the western restaurant (the Japanese restaurant doesn't have much for breakfast) - For dinner buffet, do the Japanese buffet and make a reservation! There aren't many tables so you may not get a seat without a reservation. The western buffet is also fine and had full kiwis the night I tried it. You can order a la carte from the Italian restaurant at the lounge but be prepared for a long wait and unattentive service (half an hour for a pizza and was such a pain to pay my bill...) - I recommend you just do buffet to avoid service issues. - Don't buy the first-class lift ticket unless it is a light snow day. You can go on the lift half an hour early (8am instead of 8:30), which is worth it I think, but one day there was a lot of snow and everyone who got on early had to wait at the top of the mountain in the blizzard conditions while the staff "checked the mountain" -- not clear to me why they couldn't have done that 10 minutes earlier since we are paying a premium for early access... - Annoying that the hot springs close at 9am on weekdays since checkout is at 11 and I would have liked to go after breakfast before I checked out. - It's not a very well run hotel (check in and rentals are a pain), but snow is worth it. - Wifi was incredible

The resort is amazing. Beautiful finishing.The food is extremely BAD of all the restaurant! We had to leave the resort every night to eat in the local restaurants.The restaurants in the ski filed you could only pay by cash but there is no ATM facilities in the resorts which is make it very difficult for an international traveler. Also this is not mentioned on the website.

Highly recommended for family snow holiday
Fabulous new place, snow was fresh and dry , room was clean and well designed. Staff were helpful and can speak English / Chinese.

Lovely Lotte Arai
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at this lovely resort! The rooms were exceptionally clean and well appointed. The onsen, fantastic. The restaurants, delicious. The location is a tad remote but if you took advantage of the free shuttle to the train station or even to the local rest stop, you would have enough choices for picking up snacks or eating a casual meal off the property. Some people have said this place is expensive. You get what you pay for. We didn’t find prices any more than any North American hotel. If anything, they’re trying their best to accommodate their guests but you could tell that things could be running more smoothly, especially at the front desk. No on was there upon our arrival. I had to go to the back and knock on the door. Check out was a bit of a wait since only two people were working. There was a huge line of guests checking out. However, one employee did do her best to make sure we did not miss the shuttle. Perhaps allocation of staff could be improved. The breakfast restaurant was always overly efficient. Some staff just seemed to linger around with nothing to do. Plates were promptly removed and everything was replenished quickly. The Japanese dinner buffet had no one clearing tables so we sat with piles of dishes next to us during our meal. Overall, we were pleased with our stay but there were some improvements they could easily make. They have so much potential!

A great new resort right on the snow field
Came here with two small children to show them snow for the first time. A great choice. New hotel with lovely large rooms, ours overlooked the ski field. The skiing lessons and instructors were fantastic, and staying right on the field was great. There’s a range of food options, as well as a small village close by you can eat and get supplies. Highly recommended. Also snowed during our stay which was great.
