My partner Jimmy and I stayed for 2 nights in Feb 2002, it was beautiful! Historic charm with modern amenities! You needn’t worry about a thing everything included for you to step right into and feel at home. Fresh local produce, bread, tea, jams yoghurt, juice, milk with breakfast basket. Woodfire, outdoor deck with stunning views, BBQ, we were visited by some friendly kookaburras which we could pet. Not to mention the huge spa between the adjoining rooms, separate bathrooms with rainwater shower head, claw foot tub and designer soaps, moisturiser etc they smelt divine! Short drive to town! Love love loved this stay! We will be back for sure! Nothing else has compared. Owners are lovely and give you so much privacy. Thank you, so much!
We have been coming to Woolrich for years now and we love it. If you like feeding kookaburras expect them every evening. It is so relaxing and you have access to the beautiful cloudehill gardens. It is full house with 2 bedrooms with ensuites
I'll start with the positives as there are more than negatives! This retreat is exactly that- a retreat! Absolutely stunning roomy cottage with breathtaking views of the mountains & surrounding flora. The photographs do not do it justice! It would be perfect for a romantic getaway for a couple (or couples) or a solo trip in which you are seeking ultimate privacy and serenity. The Jacuzzi was sensational- we especially enjoyed the serene views and skylight. The host provides an abundance of breakfast and snack options free of additional cost so there is no need to bring nibbles! The premises has ducted heating throughout, so if a fireplace is not your thing you're covered. Beds have electric blankets which was a treat as we stayed in Winter.
Negatives are the cleanliness of not so regularly used areas (dust). The communication with the hosts was non existent. I sent an email, left a voicemail and tried ringing the landline twice but there was no answer or reply. For this particular trip it was no big issue, however if it was an emergency situation this is not ideal.
Also, I booked this accomodation as the description stated it was child-friendly and provided cots. Be warned this particular premises is NOT suitable for children under the age of 10!!! It is not baby-proofed at all, a lot of cupboards holding chinaware and antiques were in easy reach of a toddler! Having said that, I will definitely be coming back, but this time without children.
The cottage is beautiful and has everything you could want or need for a a few days away. Mary and Chas were fantastic hosts. They provided generous breakfast provisions including fruit, bread and lovely wine. My husband is a coeliac and it was the small touches such as gf granola and bread that we really appreciated. Not to mention the coffee machine! The open fire was ready to light when we arrived but there is ducted heating if you are not keen on the fire. I can’t recommend this place enough - you won’t be disappointed! I give it 5 stars - Lisa
Lovely place, lovely owner, very well located. We spent 2 days there, and took one to complete relaxing in the garden.

Awesome stay!
The place is perfect! Cosy, warm, very clean and has all the amenities you need. Mary and Ches are very attentive as well, love the little touches to make our stay the best we had! Will recommend this place to anyone!
We had the most wonderful time at Woolrich Retreat and would highly recommend a stay here.
The cottage has everything you need and more to enjoy a self contained stay. Everything was of a very high standard. Breakfast provisions were plentiful and of top quality. I would also recommend the antipasti platter, we were eating it for days.
Mary made us feel very welcome and was a pleasure to speak with.
The area is outstanding with some beautiful walks. We will definitely be going back to explore some more.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Mary was very helpful & friendly. We stayed in the garden retreat which was so comfortable & clean. The celebration hamper was delicious, we would come back in the future.
Lovely little retreat. It had everything we needed and they accommodated for our gluten free request. Only negatives were the lovely wooden floor could have been cleaner and the mattresses a bit worn with a noticeable hollow - not great for those of us with a bit of a back problem.
Exceeded our expectations. The Cottage is very spacious and homely. There is a big spa that we unfortunately didn't even get around to use. We felt like the only people on the mountain - it's so private. A Lyerbird sighting from the balcony in the morning was another highlight. Really enjoyed out stay including exploring the gardens. The breakfast was also sensational. Take some mozzie coils though as getting bitten can spoil the best of ambiance.
The accomodation is spot on, good ambience, surroundings to die for and all the finishing touches to make our stay something out of the ordinary. We'll be back.
this is a perfect place to hibernate during the winter. The interior is very tastefully appointed with a large spa bath. The outlook onto the trees is very calming. Sitting in front of the fire (with an endless supply of wood) whilst appreciating the wonderful outlook is very restorative.
As soon as we arrived we felt relaxed. Superb accommodation in a very peaceful setting. The breakfast provisions were substantial. The ambience of the facilities provided a restful escape from our normal activities especially with the open fire. The property would be well worth a visit at any time of year but I could image it is stunning in Spring when all the trees are in leaf or flowering. Location is ideal for day trips around the Dandenong ranges. One night is not enough
