However it is let down by several maintenance issues (one bedroom & bathroom window not opening or closing properly, bedroom door not closing, broken and ill-fitting toilet seat), and the quality of the mattresses and bedding which was really poor when compared to the most basic Premier Inn/Travelodge. "This was an interesting hotel right in the heart of Cardiff. It was an easy walk to the Castle, multiple museums, and lots of restaurants and shops. It was clean. It was a good sized. The breakfast was outstanding - the best on our trip (and we had very good breakfasts at multiple hotels, so that's saying something). The hotel is a little confusing with a maze-like layout, but you get used to it. The only problem was the bed was very uncomfortable. It was the softest bed ever, and sagged in the middle. When we mentioned this when we checked out, they were incredibly sorry to hear about it, and wished we had said something sooner. I honestly think they were upset on our behalf and wished they had the chance to fix the problem. We just don't like complaining or whatever, so we didn't mention anything. Very happy overall."

"The hotel itself is magnificent, sitting on the hillside overlooking the Welsh and English border. From the moment you step in you know you are inside a great hotel and full of history. The team where attentive and ensured we were looked after at check in and throughout. The upgrade was reasonably priced and well worth it having full access to the Signature areas. The signature lounge was impressive and with stunning views. Thank you all for a very enjoyable stay."
