"lovely pub owned by the Lowther Estate. Stayed 3 nights while attending a wedding at Askham hall 6 minutes drive away.
Food was well above usual pub food, and sourced from the Estate.
Recently refubished.
Walls a little thin and you could hear voices from room next door. Also no lift and original worn stone stairs to bedrooms, so may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.
Staff helpful. by the second day when they realised I liked fresh milk for my tea in the bedroom, they put a fresh milk jug in daily without requesting it.
would definitely stay here again."
"Lovely lodge, very cosy and made even cosier by the wood burner which was a highlight of our stay. It’s close to all the beautiful locations we wanted to visit as part of our short Lake District break. We had a few issues which were dealt with the next day. The pictures are a bit misleading, this is a lodge on the edge of a large lodge park and quite close to the other lodges. It does have a lovely garden overloooking fields on one side but the other three sides are right next to other lodges and their cars."
"Me my elderly mother my daughter and our little dog had a throughly good time lovely clean cottage and two minutes away from lowther castle very quiet area we will definitely be back x"
"Lovely B&B. Great breakfast - order the cooked breakfast the night before, but also get a selection of berries, yoghurt, cereals available. Nice sitting room available for guests to use.
Good restaurant just over the road (George & dragon), so book that too and you'll be sorted.
We visited Lowther Castle nearby, which is a great day out - huge kids outdoor play area"
"What a amazing location, Not far to Penrith which was nice! Property was very homely and the views where to die for, Big plus was having the hot tub and being pet friendly "
"Fantastic place to stay. Quiet location (until Kendal Calling started!) but even that was ok. Enclosed garden for the dogs, comfortable beds, good shower, lots of room for 4 adults & 2 dogs. Great pubs in the village, loved the outdoor swimming pool in the village - even the weather was perfect!"
"I've stayed in countless holiday apartments and cottages throughout the Lakes and would say that I enjoyed the view and the quiet from Chapel Cottage the most.On a clear crisp February morning, the village below with the backdrop of the other side of the valley is stunning. The cottage has everything you need. It is more traditional that flash so don't expect absolute luxury but it's super cosy downstairs but has a spacious kitchen and three double bedrooms, one with an ensuite.Askham is just over a mile away with two great pubs and the Michelin restaurant at Askham Hall. That said, the Queens Head now only does pizzas and Askham Hall is up for sale. Had a couple of solid 'pub grub' meals at the Punchbowl.Plenty of walks- Pooley Bridge is about 4 miles away, there are the eastern fells to explore, Haweswater/Bampton and a nice walk along the river Lowther to Askham and beyond.I usually like to try different properties but this is one I would return to in the spring or summer to sit out the front and have a glass of wine with that amazing view."
"Clean and spacious room, sitting by the fire in the bar is lovely. Breakfast was delicious, however the room was freezing, the amazing staff member serving breakfast did turn on the heating but it didn't help much. "
