"This is B&B, not a hotel. There were some things which needed fixing (signage, bathroom repairs, and some outside items). The room was spacious and hospitable. Met the host when we were coming back, soaked from a hike amidst a surprise rain and asked if we could dry our clothes. He was friendly and accommodating, though the washer/dryer was not an option for guests. Very kind and helped us a lot.
Honestly, I liked the come-and-go breakfast options and shared kitchen for little things. Homey, sometimes a little more than I like, such as throw pillows which are a touch item I don’t need, with cleanliness in mind.
Good value for the area.
Driveway maintenance would be helpful for those arriving in the dark or managing non-SUV vehicles on rainy days."
50' from the ocean, full ocean views from bedrooms & lanai
8/10 Good
"The house is conveniently located very close to the black sand beach. If you want to spend time in this area in a secluded setting this place is definitely a good choice with the sound of the ocean. The house is comfortable but the dining area and the living room lighting could use an update. Also not sure if the housekeeper is washing the floor between each guest since we had coffee stain on the patio and the floor also had hair in some places, looked like they dont vacuum too often. Beds were clean and comfy. Master bath shower floor looked like needed some bleach and sinks need cleaning since they slow to drain. I would have gladly communicated this with the hosts and tell them privately but they have not answered to any of my messages so I had no chance talking to them."
"A funky, but nice place to stay when visiting Volcano National Park. The rooms are clean, but lack small things like space by the sink to put one’s toiletries. The do it yourself included breakfast consisted of cookies, ramen, and instant oatmeal with fresh fruit, coffee, tea available as well. Our first visit, we arrived late and had not received check in instructions and had to call the owner (on property) to tell us which unit we were in. Our second visit, all information was sent via email and we did not have to bother the hostess. If you are traveling on a budget, it’s a nice place."
Luxuriously Appointed Bali Temple Has 160 Degree Ocean Views!
8/10 Good
"Bali Temple is a great location for people interested in geology since it is mere steps away from the pāhoehoe lava flows from Kilauea's Kūpaʻianahā vent that buried Kalapana Village and and the black sand beach at Kaimū Bay in 1990, We took long walks on the lava every evening. Kalapana is an easy one hour drive to Kilauea and we were able to witness fountaining episode 51. The house itself is fine but has several minor maintenance issues typical of beach rentals. Also, we both found the three sofas uncomfortable for sitting. And there are two stools, but no comfortable chairs on the lanai which makes it difficult to enjoy the lanai."
Volcano Forest House next to Volcano National Park
10/10 Excellent
"Steve has created a perfect haven for travelers to appreciate Volcano. We stayed two nights, enjoying comfortable beds, fantastic jungle grounds and the coolest outdoor shower. The sounds of the chirping frogs at night lulled us all to sleep."
"Great location close to Volcano National Park. The cabin was cute. The beds were comfortable and great amount of space for a family. The decor is a little older and rustic. Only one TV in the family room. But the surrounding area was beautiful."
