Exactly what we needed!
Country setting just outside of town. Girls weekend to attend Trade Days and it was exactly what we wanted! Morning coffee on the deck overlooking the small lake, games inside during a storm, it was great! Rebooked for next year!

Really enjoyed our 2-night stay at The Schoolhouse
Really enjoyed our 2-night stay at The Schoolhouse. The cabin was very well equipped for a rental. We usually come well prepared, but I will say that there was everything you need already there which we really appreciated. We used the outdoor fire ring multiple times, we used the Weber charcoal grill, and the outdoor seating. The AC worked fine and the beds were more comfortable than your typical rental cabin. We also fished (bank and row boat) and we walked around the grounds. The fishing was tough - mostly some really small 8-10IN bass from all 3 ponds. If you stay in the schoolhouse, you'll have neighbors staying across the pond, but as long as your neighbors are well mannered and observe quiet hours, then you'll experience plenty of peace and quiet. I don't hesitate to recommend and I would stay again.

Canton Trip
Visited Canton Market Days - Property manager was great. Cleaning crew could of did a little better, old coffee grinds in coffee maker and dirty wash clothes in shower, and hair in the bath tub upstairs. If staying and needing more than 1 bedroom the upstairs has no stair up from the inside, only outside. But was great for what we needed - just a place to stay after shopping all day long.

The schoolhouse is cute but primitive. We enjoyed our stay. even though the heat was just space heaters both floors were warm. be aware that to access the second floor you will have to go outside.

Great Hideaway Weekend
We spent the weekend at the red schoolhouse cabin while attending the Canton First Monday swap meet. The cabin and grounds were a nice respite to the hustle and bustle of the swap meet. We walked the grounds, built a fire under the starlit skies and slept soundly in the quiet solitude of the cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

What a Perfect Anniversary Getaway!
My husband of 20 years and I had the best time at this cabin. It was so relaxing, the fishing was great, and the decor was phenomenal. It really was the perfect anniversary getaway!

Peaceful and surrounded by nature
We loved our time at whispering Duck. We loved sitting out on the two decks, the breeze off the pond, walking the trails, grilling and saw many birds including Whispering Ducks, a Blue Heron, hawks, and a big ole turtle! It was the perfect peaceful location to recharge and unwind. The accommodations were clean and comfortable! We grilled and cooked inside when a storm rolled through. Listening to the rain and thunder we saw Mother Nature! We’ll definitely come back! Also checked out East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society in Athens and walked their 2 miles of trails. Gorgeous.

Great place, quiet and cozy. Lots of fishing or just sitting around telling ghost stories if you like that. My teenage boys really enjoyed it finally stayed off there phones. Love this place!

First Family Vacation in a long time
I loved the old school house theme. My son and his wife, both USMC, wanted to go fishing while on vacation. This was the best place for fishing. It’s a guarantee catch. This is a great family vacation spot. When our baby girl is old enough to fish, we will definitely be coming back.

Relaxing weekend getaway
We had a wonderful stay! Russ was very helpful and was quick to respond when we had questions. My kids thoroughly enjoyed paddling the boats around the pond. We all had a great time fishing and everyone caught several bass and bluegill. Saw lots of other wildlife which is always fun. There is not an indoor connection between the first and second floor, which isn't an issue unless it is raining:) I would thoroughly recommend this place! It was secluded, quiet, and made for a great time with family!

Whistling Duck Cabin was perfect
We had an awesome time with our 15 and 19 year old daughters at the cabin. It was peaceful and comfortable. We spent most of our time outdoors and we had so much fun fishing together. Our 80lb dog loved the place even more than we did. Russ is super responsive and very nice!! We hope to return and catch the giant catfish that broke our 15 year old’s line!

Half the lights outside of the house didn't work. The deadbolt locks didn't work. Tried calling the host a couple times to help with finding the property and never got an answer or call back. Would not ever stay here again.

I am so sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We take customer feedback very seriously and are disappointed we didn't meet your expectations. I looked back through our phone logs and see that you did call us once on the 17th, but didn't leave a message. We do check our voice mails and texts continuously throughout the day. I’m sorry we missed your call and would have gotten immediately back to you if we knew you needed help. We will take care of the outsight lights asap. The door locks work but sometimes the downstairs bolt sticks a bit when the weather changes. I will try to address that as well. We hope you reconsider and try us again in the future. We gathered here to meet up with friends from Katy, Texas as we were coming from Arkansas. Our main goal was to relax and enjoy the First Monday weekend in Canton, Tx which was a few minute drive from our cabin. The cabin is very private tuck in the woods on the a large pond. All our goals were met and then some.

Great country escape just a few miles out of town....
Pictures of property do not do it justice. The place is gorgeous. It is quiet, nestled, and so relaxing. The fishing was good. The place is so clean, owners so very cool, and easy to deal with. The landscape and ponds are so tranquil... My only complaint is on me for not booking it before now. Great affordable lil spot.

Joyful Christmas!
Our immediate family stayed at the cabin for Christmas. Our extended clan all came for Christmas Eve lunch. There was plenty of room and we easily cooked a large meal. It was subzero temps overnite, but we remained warm and cozy the whole time. Highly recommend this place.

Peace, love and wildlife
Cozy bed, beautiful views, and a variety of birds with a peek at a pond out the windows—what’s not to love? We had a storm blow through, and the owner was kind enough to check on us. You’ll feel like family in this rustic gem, and it was everything we wanted.

Great trip
Overall a great trip with family. Essentially had two separate suites with complete kitchens. Didn’t appear to have any wifi only minimal Dish network. Fishing was great ñ. Really quiet and remote. Caught 5 small 1-2 lb bass. Best fishing on the left end nearest the road. Many activities provided. Really enjoyed our stay. Only critique we would make is lack of AC in the bottom bedroom which wasn’t bad for us in October but could see how it would make summer months less desirable.

I’m so sorry to hear you guys didn’t have fun fishing. This is the first time we’ve gotten this type of feedback as there’s usually tons of spots to fish on the shores of the 3 ponds or off one of the 3 docks on the property. Your stay unfortunately coincided with a severe drought in the area that did make the shoreline a bit less accessible. Fortunately we’ve gotten some more rain since then. Hopefully you’ll give us another chance in the future and thanks for the feedback!

BEAUTIFUL SECLUSION!
Had a wonderful time at the cabin with my family! We were surrounded by trees and water and it felt sooo good! It was also super easy to find. The cabin was stocked with linens, towels, cooking utensils, plates, cups, and even had coffee and a few spices. There were two boats and two docks to fish from. We Loved it! Our family that visited for the day kept telling us what a wonderful find we had stumbled upon. I could not agree more. Russ was very prompt with contacting us when needed and very nice! Thank you for offering your property to others to use, you have a piece of paradise!

Perfect place for fishing & spending time outdoors! Beautiful property, big fish, centrally located in between Canton & Athens. If you are a family that spends a lot of time inside gathering, the house may not suit your needs, but it is great for a small family like ours looking to spend some quality time outside! Looking forward to coming back during cooler weather months.

Great little place for a few days away from the big city. Every thing we needed was provided. We fished, cooked out on the grill and enjoyed the peace and quite. Lakes were low do to the drought but still fishable. AC worked great. They state park not for away and had a Great Lake for swimming. Cool place.

It’s a nice place, I would come back for sure. Pine trees all around, very little traffic. We had clear skies so starts really popped at night. The schoolhouse is well kept. AC stayed cold even though it was 100+ in late afternoon every day. Fishing was great, I’m sure we were well into double digit bass for the couple of days we were there. Owner was very responsive and helpful. It occurred to me that I have never met a bad guy named Russ and the streak continues.
