Avoid this hotel if you want to sleep
What they don't tell you is that this hotel has its own function venue, taking up much of the ground, 1st and 2nd floors. The two nights we there, they hosted insanely loud parties until 2am - so loud our bed was literally vibrating! It was very challenging to sleep (despite the ear plugs they provide), there was little by way of apology the next morning except that "they have a very busy December". The rooms themselves are okay, and the location is great - but next time we are in Cologne we will try a hotel that we can actually sleep in

Lieber Gast,wir bedauern sehr, das Sie so eine unangenehme Erfahrung bei uns gemacht haben. Das Anno 1858 ist die Eventlocation in der Malzmühle. Die Räumlichkeiten können für Tagungen, Hochzeiten, Firmenevents o.ä. gemietet werden. Normalerweise ist es hier nicht so laut, da es ganz klare Anweisungen gibt, die Musik ab 0.00 leiser zu stellen und die Terrassentür geschlossen zu halten. Leider halten sich die Gäste zu fortgeschrittener Stunde nicht immer daran und die Mitarbeiter schaffen es nicht immer Einhalt zu gebieten. Wir arbeiten daran, wie wir die Situation verbessern können.herzlichst Hotel zur Malzmühle

Good room but corrupt staff.
Everything was OK up until it was time to check out. We had to check out very early in the morning -- 4:30 pm and I asked the front desk agent if he could call a taxi for us. That's when everything went bad. A car pulls in that does not have any Taxi markings on it and it was a black Mercedes as opposed to the cream colored ones that drive all over the city. The front desk agent comes outside and, in front of my eyes, the driver hands him 5 EUR. I asked how much the 15 minute trip to the airport would approximately cost and he said $50. Well, without traffic the driver rang up EUR $72. Botom line: the night shift agent is corrupt and took advantage of guests who were time pressed to get to the airport. This was not an arms length transaction but an opportunity for him to take advantage of an opportunity at a referral fee. The hotel itself was OK. The room had its unique quirks such as high vaulted ceilings and windows that opened out. There was no HVAC and the shower lacked any lighting. The "queen bed" is actually two beds pushed together, so they posted misleading information on that. The room itself was clean and adequately maintained. I paid top dollar for a junior suite and I'll make sure to avoid this hotel on my next trip to Cologne all because a night shift employee decided to take advantage of me.

Very Nice room. Lots of wardrobe space for two people. Comfy bed. Great location, walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go and good public transport links. breakfast was okay but a little expensive for the quality compared to other local options. Staff were very nice. Happy with the price of the stay. Only issue was the drain in the sink emitted a bad smell throughout the stay but I’m not sure if that was the hotels specific issue or an issue in the area. Would stay again :)

-Hotel with friendly staff -3mins walk from bus station -Due to living crisis, room cleaning service is only available by request But Please don’t stay here during weekends - During our stay, there were party until 4am , we can still hear the noise with ear plugs/ AirPod, which made us couldn’t sleep all night.

The staff was friendly and helpful and the location was perfect. It was a very short Uber ride from the train station (we could've walked it without baggage, but we had a lot of stuff) and easily walkable to many shopping and dining options in the Haymarket and Old City areas as well as Dom Cathedral. We received 2 free beer tokens for the bar and we even discovered that there are some rooms that offer the option (when booked in advance) of a beer tap right in the room. The room was clean and comfortable and the headboard resembled the inside of a beer barrel. It was a unique and comfortable place to stay.

The room was nice but it was very loud outside and people smoking outside the restaurant - the smoke drifted up. It was spring so I wanted the window open for air but the noise & smoke made it unpleasant. I was on the 3rd floor so if you stay there ask for the top floor.

My room was quite nice - much more spacious than most of what I have experienced in Europe, and everything in the room and bathroom was high-end. The hotel is attached to a good local brewery/restaurant and just on the edge of the old town. It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk to the central train station, but going through the old town, it's a pleasant stroll.

Stayed for Anuga in October. This is the best accommodation among another aparthotel and another hotel near the church all I stayed during the fair. Love the view from room, the heaters that were functional, and the clean, lovable interior. Nothing was out of order. Great restaurant downstairs, great breakfast for only 12€, I can’t complain. Oh and excellent location to go messe. Super.

The location was wonderful although there is no parking lot attached to the building and it cost 16.00 Euros a night at the garage they contract with around the corner. Entry to hotel and check in desk are very modest and the 1 lift is very slow. The room was adorable and clean and the value in terms of room and location to the old town can't be beat!! We were very happy with our stay.

Unser Eingang und die Rezeption mag Ihnen zwar klein erscheinen, jedoch ist diese 24 Stunden besetzt und somit haben Gäste den ganzen Tag einen Ansprechpartner. Ferner werden die meisten Dinge bei uns digital erstellt und erledigt sodass unser Arbeitbereich nicht groß sein muss. Diesen Platz haben wir für unsere Gäste freigehalten, damit diese sich wohler fühlen . Herzliche Grüße

This hotel does not have air conditioning. This was during heat wave - 5th room facing the sun was like an oven. Unbearably hot in the room. Ended up leaving and going to a different hotel. Had booked as non refundable so lost my money.

Miami loves Mazmühle

Decent hotel with home made beer
Decent room, super friendly staff with welcome drink and good bed. The breakfast is very good - freshly fried eggs available. Road outside a bit noisy. I liked the wood-like applications at the bed. Walking distance from the train station with light luggage.

Overall, a solid hotel. There service seems friendly, the bed is comfy, and the room had ample space. Wifi is solid as well and you get tokens for a kolsch/non-boozy drink. It's just a short walk to the Heumarkt tram stop, but somewhat of a far walk from some of the restaurants we enjoyed near Friesenplatz. That said, we didn't have any hot water one of the evenings we were there and the toilet paper is easily the worst I've had the misfortune of using. The tap water also smelled vaguely sulfuric, but not enough to cause concern. We'd still probably stay there again if we planned on using public transit more.

I got bitten by bedbugs while staying at this hotel. The elevator is small, and there are locked doors between the hallway and the elevators. The hotel appears to be quite old and not updated. Otherwise, the location and price are appropriate.

Dear guest, we are completely shocked about your review. We don't know in which hotel you spent the night and got bitten by bedbugs but shurely not on our hotel. Our house has been built in 2015, all the interieur is new. We got an high amount of positiv reviews for our cleanliness, the nice design and our very friendly staff. On all the reservation plattforms in internet we have a very good review score. so hopefully nobody will believe in your words. Unfortunately you did not mention your name, so we can't even check if your were really guest in our house. Possibly you mix us with annother hotel. Best Regards your hotelmanagement

Spacious and quiet
Spacious room with comfy bed, water kettle and coffee machine. No AC though. Contemporary bathroom. View on Cologne dome. Brewery, bar and restaurant next door. Guests get one free beer

City hotel with close proximity to everything cent
Stayed at Hotel zur Malzmühle for a week, where we noticed following things. Positives: - Free beer tokens - View of the Kölner Dom - Great staff - Good working WiFi/W-Lan - Close enough to amenities such as the Kölner Dom, Kölner Messe and the city centre either by walking (everything within 30 min walking distance) or public transport (Heumarkt station is 2 min. walking distance) Negatives: - Parking quite expensive at €16/day - Privacy sticker in toilet was not covering entire glass to bathroom - Tap was very close to sink, causing a lot of water spillage on the side - Tap water is chlorinated and not drinkable, water bottle offered but at €4 for 1 litre this is too much - No kettle (probably because of the chlorinated water)

Dear Martin, thank you for you comment. We are glad that you had a wonderful stay in cologne. We are sorry that you stay in our house was accompagnied with some trouble. But let me answer some of your remarks. Parking in cologne is very expensive. Our rate is lower than most of all the other publice parking spots around. The tap water in germany is the most healthy water you can get and there is no chlorine at all. You can drink the water everywhere. Probably it was a hot day and there was maybe some odor coming out of the sink when there is not enough water in the old pipes. A water kettle in the room is not commen. Brand new hotel in the middle of old town Cologne. Extremely welcoming and professional reception by Michael. Hotel staff speaks great English and Michael gave us great recommendations of things to do and see in the city and even helped us with our German. The furniture and fixtures were very high quality. we had a great time in Cologne and glad we picked hotel Malzmuhle.

Incredible location business travellers
Incredible location for anyone doing business at the Koln-Messe! Just two quick stops to the fairgrounds. Excellent also for walking to the Dom, great shopping at Neumarkt, and central location to anything Cologne. Hotel clerks were most helpful to find specific shops (was looking for a bulk Tea shoppe), ordering a taxi, or when requesting assistance of any kind. Highly recommend it and will definitely be back upon future visits to Koln.

The hotel needs to improve the Wifi, network keeps disappearing in the fourth floor where I stayed for 3 nights. only the first night wifi was good. The hotel is excellent, rooms are very nice, wide variety of restaurants nearby, Friendly staff.
