Pontlands Park

Pontlands Park

10/10 Excellent
"My third stay at this wonderful hotel this year. Feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, very tranquil. The rooms are huge (but no air con) beds are comfy, Delicious breakfast, staff are very helpful and friendly and would definitely recommend DRAKES Al-Fresco restaurant. The spa/swimming facilities are a lovely bonus. Can't recommend this hotel enough, I've booked to go again with different friends in a few weeks, pure relaxation."

Frequently asked questions

What can I expect on my historical trip to Chelmsford?

How many historically relevant hotels are there in Chelmsford?
In Chelmsford, you'll find 156 hotels and other accommodation options bookable on Expedia but not many designated as historic hotels.
What are the top historical sites and other places to visit in Chelmsford?
Chelmsford is notable for landmarks like Chelmsford Cathedral, Hylands House and Park and Leez Priory. Natural beauty is on display at Danbury Country Park, Hanningfield Reservoir and Great Notley Country Park. A couple of additional sights to add to your itinerary are Bond Street and Chelmsford City Racecourse.
What is a historic hotel like in Chelmsford?
A guest who chooses a historic hotel has an opportunity to stay in a place that's been officially recognised with a national historic designation. Historic hotels throughout the world come in all forms like castles, palaces, grand homes or even old police stations, pubs, lodges or skyscrapers — any place of special interest. These types of hotels in Chelmsford typically retain authentic elements like traditional architecture and period features in their communal spaces or guestrooms.
What is the difference between a historic hotel and a heritage hotel?
These terms are similar. "Historic hotel" is a term often used in the US, while you'll often hear "heritage hotel" in Asia and Europe. Historic hotels tend to place more significance on the physical building and architecture. Mainly a heritage hotel draws meaning from the cultural value and how it inspired the surrounding community.
Do historic hotels in Chelmsford have modern facilities?
Yes. Every effort is made to preserve the historic aspects and traditions, but hotel interiors are fitted with modern conveniences and safety features. Guests can expect the amenities you'd get from a hotel such as private rooms with updated bathroom facilities, WiFi and more. In Chelmsford, booking a historic hotel doesn't mean you're choosing a place that's rundown.
