Didn't get off to best start having to wait quite a while to check in only to be told room wasn't available even though it was 14:30, then they quabbled with us when we told them they sent us the wrong food by room service (!)....not a 5 star experience! However, after the iffy start, the hotel grew on me & I really did enjoy it from then on - facilities were good (particularly if you are into fitness/sports), it has a choice of 3 pools (one of which is adult only) and 2 small beaches (which aren't that special) but you have direct access to the beach/sea from within the resort and the resort itself is lovely - well maintained with lovely views onto the bay. Yes, it's quite a big resort and you can get buggy service to move around but it's absolutely fine to walk around - in fact, we actiually liked that part and you can walk from one end to the other in less than 10 mins.
So, in summary, we liked it a lot but it's not to the standard that I would say is 5 star, more 4.5....
We have returned to this hotel many times. It is close to the beaches, National Park, has great food, very friendly staff and good accommodation. Location is out of town but everything is here so no need to leave.
Ideally setted in the cove of Barca Trencada, in Majorca, the Iberostar Club Cala Barca Hotel is the ideal accommodation for …More
Overall good. Thought we were booked into the Skorpios but were in sister Hotel Corfu - think Skorpios slightly more up market and would have suited us better. Definitely 3 Star only but a good 3 Star. Food was good for the first 5 days then went downhill after that and, unfortunately as Spanish wine is lovely, the wine on tap was awful had to buy our own in the local supermarket. Real problem with sunbeds and umberellas - it was very hot and there was little shade so we all got sunburnt.
Apartments are very well equipped for a short or longer stay. The kitchen in the 1 b/r apartment we stayed in had a hob with 4 electric rings plus an oven, a microwave, kettle, toaster and washing machine. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, pots, pans and cooking utensils and on arrival a small supply of washing up liquid etc.
The living room is a very good size with a sofa, table 4 chairs, flat screen tv with a couple of UK channels and opened out onto a patio and small front garden looking out onto pool & gardens.
Bedroom has a good sized wardrobe, small bedside cabinets on either side of the bed a tv unit with another flat screen tv with storage and a drawer underneath. Bed was a double of the kind that is 2 singles zipped together but very comfortable and linens changed regularly. Safe in wardrobe for a small charge.
Bathroom was well sized with a bath shower over bath good pressure and plentiful hot water.
The grounds of the complex are very pretty, clean & well maintained. Pool is a bit cold but always clean and a good size. Sunbeds around pool are very comfortable, well padded type with enough parasols if you want some shade.
We didn't use the bar at the complex but this was open every day during daytime hours.
Reception staff Carmen and Adrian were always friendly helpful and professional and nothing was too much trouble for them, thank you to both of them.
Would highly recommend for families or couples. We would definitely return and would recommend to family/friends.
"Great sea-front location, quiet but easy access to Cala D'Or"
Good facilities and our room had a large balcony overlooking the rocky sea-front.Quiet location but 5 minutes walk to shops/restauants and lovely child-friendly beaches. Hotel staff very friendly and willing to help.Had a cheap option to move to full board-very good value although the food was a bit samey.IF you don't like the French, don't stay here!
This hotel is in a perfect location! 2 minute walk away from centre of town and restaurants even so no noise is heard when trying to sleep. 5 minute walk away from beach which is stunning with white sands and turquoise sea. Spar literally across the road which is convenient when wanting snacks, drinks or any day to day items which you may have left at home.
Recently spent 8 nights, all inclusive, at Ponent Playa (17-24 June '15).
Great hotel, with sufficient facilities, good food in abundance, excellent staff and fantastic location.
Would not hesitate to return, in fact will return next year.
Well done to all the staff at Barceló Ponent Playa and look forward to your exceptional hospitality next time.
Six little coves with golden sand and turquoise waters is the raison d’être for Cala d’Or. A modern, multinational low-rise resort in southeast Mallorca, Cala d’Or winds its way around an indented shoreline, punctuated by a series of small marinas. When these beaches get full which in summer is certain head south to the equally beautiful coves at Cala Mondrago, Cala Figuera and Cala Llombards.
