When you visit Stockholm’s Butterfly House you’ll love being surroundedby tropical plants, colourful butterflies and parrots, koi and lizards. Beneaththe high ceiling of the greenhouse, the spectacular nature centre is home tomore than 700 butterflies from around the world.
Learn about the lives of the butterflies, including the transition fromegg to beautiful insect. Within the greenhouse a constant temperature allowsthis transition to occur year round. Watch as the butterflies emerge from theireggs or watch the ways in which they eat and mate. Follow the paths that leadthrough the greenhouse to come across waterfalls and tranquil ponds. Arrive atthe ponds in time for a koi feeding session to see the fish jumping about. Keepyour eyes peeled for the lizards and parrots that congregate around the water.
Explore the attached Haga Ocean facility to meet sharks and learn aboutthe research that’s conducted on manmade reefs. Stop by the on-site café for alight snack or drink or bring a picnic to enjoy on the sprawling grass aroundthe greenhouse.
The Butterfly House is located within Hagaparken, a park with beautifulwoodlands, sculpted gardens and fascinating buildings. Guided tours areavailable and provide great detail about Gustav III’s Pavilion, one of thecity’s royal palaces. Wander through the graves at the nearby Royal Cemetery topay your respects to the passed royals. Rent a Segway from the butterfly housefor a fun and speedy way to move between the sites.
The Butterfly House can be found in the northern part of Hagaparken,just ten minutes by car or taxi from the centre of Stockholm. Ticketed parkingis available on the edge of the park and a number of bus routes will drop youat the entrance to Hagaparken. The Butterfly House is closed on Christmas Eveand Christmas Day and an admission fee applies. Those with a Stockholm Cardwill have free access to the house, along with dozens of other majorattractions in the city.
