Bellevue Park offers some of the best views of nearby Brunnsviken Lake,great examples of historic Swedish architecture and an opportunity to visit amuseum dedicated to Swedish sculptor Carl Eldh. Designed by Fredrik MagnusPiper, a royal landscape architect, the park resembles an English garden anddates back to the 18th century. Today it makes up part of the Royal NationalCity Park.
Take the paths that traverse the gardens to reach the central hilltop,where the best views and photo opportunities can be found. Bring a picnic tomake the most of Sweden’s lovely summer weather. A statue of a localplaywright, August Strindberg, can be found in the park. Continue following thecentral path to reach two of the park’s most notable structures. The oldestbuilding in the park, Paschens Malmgård, is a rococo-style house that datesback to the 1750s, while a small wooden cottage nearby once belonged to CarlSparre, a prominent Swedish politician. Known as the Timber Palace, the housedates back to 1782.
Visit a museum dedicated to Carl Eldh, one of Sweden’s most-lovedsculptors. See more than 1,000 works from the artist, including scale models ofThe Branting Monument and The Olympic Runners, Eldh’s best-knownworks. During summer the museum offers guided tours of both the museum and thecity’s many sculpture parks.
Families will love visiting Bellevue Park as it’s a great place topicnic, play games or soak up a bit of Nordic sun. After some time in themuseum the kids will love running around the large lawn area.
Just a 10-minute drive from central Stockholm, Bellevue Park can bereached by bus or car, and free parking is available at the Haga Forum nearby.A historic cycle route leads to the park and is a great way to discover more ofthe Royal National City Park.
