"We had a lovely time. The whole staff, starting with Sue, who checked us in, were brilliant, the breakfast outstanding, the room clean, the view of the river and opposite shore outstanding. We plan to return."
"Fantastic Georgian country house, most comfortable bed I’ve slept in when away from home. Host is knowledgeable about surrounding area and is very attentive."

Interesting history and lovely walks. Quite a few food places closed on Mondays and Tuesdays which made it a little trickier to eat out without looking in advance.

Robert recommended local spots to visit. We loved St Abbs and Paxton House, Cross Inn and Fishers Arms.

A lack of decent pubs really but we did find a couple of very good options near the hotel. The Curfew and the Barrels were both great. The centre has a few individual shops and of course the mandatory charity shops.

Rose Cottage - Charming Cottage in the Grounds of a Private Country House Estate
10/10 Excellent
"This property is an absolute gem, set in beautiful grounds and an excellent base for local touring, both north and south of the border.
Well presented and superb throughout"
"Light bright rooms, overlooking fields with castle & sea in the distance. Plenty of parking at front of building. Sraff extremely helpful. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice both cold & cooked. There is an onsite cafe adjouning hotel which was ideal. They served hot & cold dishes, variety of sandwiches, cakes, puds etc. It is open 24/7 & used by passersby on A1.
Very central for trips to Bamburgh, Seahouses, Lindisfarne etc.
We would definitely recommend & will be making a return jorney for sure as still lots to explore. "
"A great base for walking or cycling. Friendly helpful staff. We had a twin room which was comfortable and had everything we needed. The set up works really well as the rooms are separate from the Inn with an entrance for residents to access the restaurant for meals. I would certainly recommend a stay. "
