Stay away! A two star at best!
This is NOT a four star hotel. We booked two rooms ans specified that the room for our 18 year old son and 16 year old daughter had to have two beds. When we arrived, they were given a room with one bed. The hotel squeezed a roll-away in there and promised to try to move them, but that never happened. In our room, the pipes hammered whenever anyone in the vicinity turned on the water. The shower regulator didn't work, alternatively giving cold and very hot water. We called to have both problems fixed. The hammering pipes abated somewhat, but the shower never worked correctly. In the other room, the TV went out at about 10:00 pm. They called to have someone fix it. The repair person showed up at 1:30 am. In that same room, the A/C began leaking water through the ceiling and forming a puddle on the floor. We called to have it fixed. After an hour, with the water continuing to drip out of the ceiling, we had to call again. They finally sent someone up at about 11:30 pm. The restaurant is overpriced and undergood. The carpets are worn. The woodwork is battered.
Neighbourhood recommendations: Mayfair.
Getting around: Stay away from the taxis if you can. Very expensive. If you learn the underground system, it will take you almost anywhere in London you want to go at a much lesser cost. The trains serve Heathrow and Gatwick and the underground serves Heathrow as well.
Great Location
Location is great; directly across the street from Gloucester Underground station. (Remember that the Underground isn't 24 hours when you're booking events). Short walk to Hyde Park, Royal Albert Hall, and the free Museum of Natural History. Two grocery stores nearby, a Whiterose and a 24 hour Tesco. The rooms were tidy, comfortable, and the curtains kept it dark if you needed to sleep during the day. We did have one mix up where we paid the consierge for a taxi but then the taxi driver had no record of that and had to pay him as well. The hotel reversed the original charges when we told them. When you flushed the toilet in the room, the pipes made a lot of noise but that wasn't a big issues. Free TV is available in the rooms, which is nice for winding down. Overall a very good experience.
Great location, great staff
The hotel was very nice- the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent- right near the Gloucester Road Tube stop, many restaurants, 2 supermarkets and a Boots.
Dining: We ate at The Gate on Queen Caroline Road in Hammersmith. it is a lovely airy vegetarian restaurant. The restaurant has a great and interesting way with vegetables and grains and wonderful puddings too.
General Information
What to expect: Hotel guests are a mix of international travelers and showbiz personalities, who enter the hotel through a grand pillared portico, past a pair of clipped bay trees.
Dating from 1876, the hotel’s original staircase is a more enjoyable way of negotiating the hotel’s five floors than the trio of lifts. With its wrought-iron railings and polished-brass banister, the staircase curves up from the lobby past Victorian stained-glass windows, decorated with the crest of the hotel and an image of Saint George and the dragon. Original plasterwork decorates the ceiling and a large chandelier hangs over a dramatic flower arrangement. Tapestries, oil paintings, and antique prints decorate the walls; a tartan-covered, antique-style sofa and armchair and eclectic objets d’art add character.
Amenity highlights: Sharing the hotel’s building is the famous Bombay Brasserie restaurant, which offers dishes from the Punjab, Tundra, Goa, and Kerala in a setting reminiscent of the British Raj. The large and airy Conservatory, adjacent to the hotel, is available for business lunches and cocktail parties. High-speed Internet access is available in a kiosk on the ground floor, and room service is available 24 hours.
Insider tip: One mile from the hotel lies the museum district in South Kensington, where huge Victorian buildings house the Science, Natural History, and Victoria & Albert museums. The lesser-known Royal College of Music’s Museum of Instruments, tucked away in a basement on Prince Consort Road, features Haydn’s clavichord, Handel’s spinet, Elgar and Holst’s trombones, and a 15th-century clavicytherium, the oldest keyboard stringed instrument in existence.
Property Amenities
At Millennium Bailey's Hotel London Kensington a small Internet booth, with high-speed Internet access (surcharge), is located on the ground floor. For business meetings, the Bailey’s boardroom, with deep leather office chairs holds 12 people. The Millennium Conference Centre accommodates 1,000 people over two floors.
Built between the Millennium Bailey’s Hotel and the adjoining Millennium Gloucester Hotel, the Conservatory is a large, airy space away from lively Gloucester Road, used for business lunches and cocktail parties. With its white-painted, wrought-iron frame and large indoor palms, the conservatory is reminiscent of Victorian glasshouses. Potted topiary, a grand piano, and the wooden bar add to the sense of refined glamour.
