If you wish to stay in modern, impersonal, sleek, minimalist decor and environment .. don't go to the Art Hotel Spaander which exudes history, character and aesthetics every direction you care to look.
The mini "resort" that has grown from the traditional fishing village of Volendam owes much of it's development to the vision of the individuals who established the cafe that grew into the Hotel.
Despite being quite full by our departure day, there was plenty of space for tourists and business groups to coexist without dispelling the atmosphere of genteel pleasantness. Staff were efficient, helpful and cheerful from booking to departure.
I hope to return.
"Very good budget hotel on outskirts of Amsterdam"
We thought this hotel was extremely good value for money - especially with free parking (many hotels in and around Amsterdam charge an arm and a leg, or don't have parking at all). Okay, it was quite a way from the city centre, but there was a reliable and easy bus service, a stone's throw away. And the suburb of Zandaam is quite pleasant too. Okay, our room was quite small, but we were expecting that. What we weren't expecting was for the bed to be so big - or so comfortable! We had everything we needed - and for a fraction of the price of a central hotel.
"Great hotel only 2 train stops from city centre!"
For our first time in Amsterdam, this hotel exceeded our expectations! Very close to Zaandam train station and township, very welcoming staff and foyer, with very clean and spacious rooms. We would recommend this to any future travellers to Amsterdam!

Amazing little fisherman town, insane amounts of charm, and the cutest little hotel room that you've ever seen!!! If you're looking for something quick and convenient to Amsterdam, this hotel is about a 25 minute drive into the city. But after a busy day in the hustle and bustle of the excitement, it was nice to unwind while strolling down the village's cobblestone streets and popping in and out of the small shops.
HOWEVER......beware if you're planning to take your pets with you!!! Our black lab came along for the excursion and there wasn't ANY grass within a reasonable walking distance for a fellow that's trying REALLY hard to hold it :(
And I don't have children, but I would be cautious of visiting this area with very young children due to the number of canals that run through the town without barriers along the waterway!
