Having lived in Japan for quite some time, these are more trees than I have ever seen in one place and it was a pretty amazing and unexpected site. Made widely popular in Japan but originating in China as penzai or penning, the art form of Bosai is the growing of a tree in a container and literally means "planted in a container". A Bonsai tree is not a genetically dwarfed plant, any tree species can be used to grow one. The art form does take a fare amount of attention though, with a great deal being put into the care and maintenance.
