We stayed in ‘Deluxe cabins’ which were spacious and clean, but are probably due a routine refit. The mattress on the beds were not very comfortable and the shower heads badly stained. The food was very good for both evening meal and breakfast. Perfectly adequate to rest your head for a night.

The Red Lion, Milfield, excellent pub and hotel.
I had the pleasure of staying at The Red Lion and right from the beginning, I was greeted with a genuinely warm and convivial welcome. Walking into the pub, I was instantly struck by its cozy and inviting atmosphere. The impressive selection of quality ales made it clear that this was a place with a serious commitment to offering a great drink selection. My room was spotlessly clean, and as soon as I settled in, I felt the comforting and homely atmosphere it exuded. It was clear that the staff took considerable care to ensure that everything was comfortable and inviting. Dining at the pub was a true delight. The menu offered an extensive range of options, and each dish was cooked and presented to an impressively high standard. The waitress who took care of my table was not only friendly, but also went above and beyond to make sure my experience was exceptional. I truly appreciated the level of attentiveness and warmth from the entire staff. Overall, my stay at The Red Lion was thoroughly enjoyable. The food and drink were exceptional, and the warmth of the staff made it an experience to remember. I'd like to extend my best wishes for success to the young couple running the establishment. I regret not asking for their names, but I hope to convey my appreciation in person next time I visit. I can say with confidence that The Red Lion will be my first choice when I return to the area. The Red Lion is nestled in the breathtakingly beautiful Northumberland countryside.

Good basic accommodation for a walking weekend
Breakfast first rate, shower excellent. Didn’t stay in the building stayed in the cabin which was basic decor was fine bed basic, slept well. Hospitality tray was fine could have had some cheap bottled water for the kettle. Liked the bathroom light sensor, however the hand soap was in a rusty container which needs replacing. Musty smell on carpet or arm chair not sure why as appeared clean, could be from a dog or drying boots? Host was very friendly and an excellent cook/chef.

Stayed here for one night whilst on a two day road trip. I wanted somewhere with a traditional pub atmosphere and good accommodation. The Red Lion Inn was perfect for this. The rooms were clean and the food in the restaurant excellent. Staff were very friendly and engaging. It's also an ideal place to use as a base to explore the Northumberland area.

We travelled to Northumberland from Hampshire for a wedding. On arrival at the Red Lion we were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We had a room in the mainpart of the Inn which was vewry comfortable

My colleague and I stayed here in rooms 1 and 2 for a week whilst working in the area. The rooms were amazing, the staff friendly and food was incredible. I would definitely stay here again when I am in the area. Plus Kelso is such a lovely place 😊

Bathroom not 'accessible'!
We enjoyed our stay and would return. The location is excellent - peaceful and scenic but well connected to the border towns. Breakfast and dinner were very good and helpful smiley staff made us feel welcome. A minor quibble was that our room was described as a 'superior cabin - accessible'. Sure, it was ground floor but if anyone with mobility issues was tempted to book it they would not have been able to have a bath or shower as there were no grab rails in the bathroom at all! And no wardrobe in the 'superior' cabin, just a couple of hangers on the wall. A bit limited if you were staying more than one night. But all in all a very pleasant stay and we will return if in the area.

Lovely chalet type room to the rear of the inn. Modern, well appointed, lovely spacious bathroom. Great breakfast with plenty of choice. Ate every night in the pub. Great food! Friendly helpful owner and staff.

We had a fantastic wekend at the Red Lion. The room was ideal for us, nicely laid out with a good size bathroom to. The staff are exceptionally attentive, professional, also friendly and engaging. The meals are also excellent using local producers/suppliers, which slways gets an extra vote from me. You don't have to travel far for some fantastic scenery and despite some less than ideal weather we never ran out of yhings to do or see. We wil be returning soon for another long weekend.

Great place to stay
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Red Lion. A warm and friendly welcome, comfortable rooms, well-sized bathroom with lovely fluffy towels, good menu choice and excellent food. Great breakfast also. Service was friendly and helpful and although they were extremely busy on our second evening, they were always polite and professional. Will definitely book again.
