The property was very overpriced for a basic room above a hotel. There was no air conditioning (on a typical summer day, so pretty uncomfortable), no TV in the room (one in the other room), no hair dryer and a flickering bathroom light.

Lovely Easter

We enjoyed or stay immensely. Large room with a lovely large bathroom and friendly, helpful staff. Delicious local wines and in-house brewed beers.

Relaxing stay at a great location

We had a lovely long-weekend stay at Holgate. The rooms were clean, comfortable and reasonably spacious. There was also a lot of natural light and fresh air that came through the windows. Were our room was specifically we good hear some noise every 10-15mins, however it really just felt like white noise and wasn't a big deal. The restaurant downstairs has great quality standard pub food, the beer is what stands out and cannot be faulted. Very convenient location, walking distance to everything in town including parks, Coles and the bakery.

It was a beautiful period building and room with high ceilings and character. The room was clean and the staff were terrific. The bed was VERY firm and their was a loud vibration noise for approximately 5 minutes every 15-20 minutes through out the night. Also the only cooling in the room was a ceiling fan, it wasn't an overly hot night (10 degrees outside) but we found the room quiet warm and could be very warm on a hotter night.

Holgate brewery is a charming place to stay in the middle of Woodend. It is very noisy due to the brewing processes but otherwise a good stay.

My partner and I really liked staying at the Holgate Brew House for the weekend. Woodend is beautiful. We thought the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the beer and we tried them all. Thanks to James and Nick for the great service. We celebrated my partner’s birthday in the new addition behind the micro brewery. Everyone enjoyed the get together and drank the unique and tasty beers and ate the delicious snack food. We will be back!

Holgate Woodend - Great place to stay !

Spent 2 nights here. Staff were great, friendly. The room was old pub style, done up a few years back, a bit of paint cracking around skirts and doors, but that adds to the charm of this type of accommodation (like the small squeak on the staircase as you walk up - lol). We ate here as well - food was great (some may say a bit slow, but we were not in a hurry). Breakfast was included (was some basic breakfast items left in the room for you to look after yourself). If you wanted a hot breakfast, maybe that is available (didn't need it), but a few cafe's around that you could go to for that as well. The rooms don't have AC, but have tall ceilings, and a ceiling fan, it was 25 to 28 deg both days, didn't feel the need for AC either day or night. The rooms are upstairs, so open a window, let the breeze in if you like. The location was perfect - right in the middle of town basically. They have an onsite Brewhouse as well, so you can try some of their beers too ! Woodend is not a big town, so you can walk to everything ... enough shops to keep us happy. Day trip out we went to Kyneton ~ lunch at SOFO (Social Foundry) ... great food ! ... winery stop at Hanging Rock (have to do that !). All in all a great place to stay for a night (or in our case 2).

Love the historic building, the rooms are large with adjoining bathrooms (full size bath!!) . Excellent staff, very friendly and efficient, would definitely stay for a third time!!

The food was fantastic. Very welcoming and accommodating staff. Our only downside was the lumpy pillows! Im not sure if they've been through the washing machine but they were very uncomfortable. I'd suggest the hotel invest in new pillows and then I'd happily give them a top star rating on everything!

they've renovated the original rooms and restored it back to it's former glory however.....every 15minutes (and we timed it) the whole room would vibrate and a constant bass sound would be heard from the brewery. This went on 24/7 and made it difficult to sleep if you were in rooms 1 and 2. The mattress was rock hard and the pillows have seen better days which saw us wake up extremely sore over our two night stay
