Well-appointed rooms, lovely breakfast room, wonderful continental and/or cooked breakfast. Glenville House is well-situated between Windermere at the top of the hill where the railway station is and Bowness-on-Windermere at the bottom of the hill (where the lake is), each a half-mile away. The new owners were very helpful with tourist issues!
Lovely wee guest house for a couple nights stay. Self check-in so didn’t meet the owner but the lady serving breakfasts and who also cleaned the rooms was really friendly. Cooked breakfast but not too much! There’s nothing worse than a huge mound of food on your plate! Continental also available. Well located between Windermere and Bowness and also
Within walking distance of Lake Windermere.
We stayed in room 1. The room was large with plenty of storage space and nice furnishings. There were lots of nice touches. A sherry decanter, nice biscuits to go with your tea, a chocolate on your pillow each day and some water in the fridge. The bathroom was large and there was a range of nice toiletries and lovely fluffy towels. The only thing that wasn’t so good was we could hear the people above us walking around, and they certainly walked! However I appreciate that this is due to the age of the building and couldn’t be helped.
The property was clean but that BIRCH room at that property is the most uncomfortable room every. Youe view is a roof top and back of the neighboring property horrible. We spoke with the owners , they balantly did nothing to asist us although the hotel was empty and we were staying for a whole week . The wife Jayne was rude and unpleasant to deal with not good host. Peter the husband was a bit better. We were very uncomfortable in that room ,the bathroom is very poky and uncomfortable to sit on . I could not wait to come home to my comfortbale house.
Picking the right guest house can take hours with so many to choose from. If you’re visiting the Lake District, allow me to help save you some time and make that decision easy.
Peter and Jayne were wonderful hosts, the room we had was great, with great facilities including our own little fridge. The breakfasts were lovely and served piping hot…. a rare thing I’ve found in my travels. Lovely homemade jams were a nice touch! The bed was really very comfortable…. and I know everyone has their own preferences in types of mattress firmness… but I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud!
Grenville House is on a road, sitting 10 minutes walk from either Windermere or Bowness, depending on if you turn left or right as you leave the building.
I couldn’t have been happier with my choice of somewhere to stay on this trip, and based on the visitors book, plenty of their clients are returning customers - which says it all.
I haven’t been to the Lake District for many years, but wouldn’t even think about trying anywhere else to stay. Thank you and best wishes Peter and Jayne.
Always stay here when we visit Windermere. Fantastic rooms, breakfast, location and service. Look forward to our next stay, thanks Pete and Jayne, see you both soon
Rooms cleaned daily with little chocs left on pillow each time. Loved the personal touches, cookies and sweets always available, plenty of teabags, coffee etc. Also the fresh lemon infused water in fridge and plenty of milk. Breakfast delicious loads of choices. Peter is a gem, always happy and very funny. We were totally looked after. Lovely Guesthouse in perfect location
The guest house was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was really good, lots of choices and there was fresh fruit and yogurt with different juices every day. I highly recommend the place.
Our stay at Glenville House was fantastic, the host was welcoming and friendly, all was very clean and tidy, and all measures were taken for prevention of Covid. Our highlight would have to be the little biscuits left out, they were yummy!! Would definitely stay again and recommend people too.
The location is ideal, between Windermere and Bowness with a short walk to both locations.
The rooms are really big and very comfy, along with the home made biscuits, there is fresh milk and proper size mugs for a decent cup of tea or coffee.
Peter & Jayne make you feel very welcome and safe and Jayne does a fantastic job of cooking a blooming delicious breakfast and more homemade biscuits and treats which are always waiting in reception for you
Booked on monday evening, stayed wednesday and thursday, a great little find half way between windermere and bowness, lovely and clean 7 bedrooms all with parking space. good full breakfast. Adult only .Give it a try you will not be disappointed.
Made to feel very welcome from the first moment we arrived. Place is spotless. We had room one which is on the ground floor at the fromt. Little touches like bathrobes, fresh milk and cold water in the fridge as well as a generous tea/coffee tray Room had bath and shower with plenty of hot water. There is a terrace at the rear and further small terrace below that both with table and chairs. In these times you book a breakfast slot and fill in an order sheet the evening before which works really well. Breakfast is very good, plenty of hot and cold options. Covid precautions are all in place. Host is very affable and knows the local area and restaurants well. Glenville is in an ideal location between Windermere and Bowness, 10 minute walk from each. No hesitation
