This centuries-old castle with its rich history, haunted dungeons and birds of prey makes for an exciting day of exploring for the whole family.

There has been a fortress on this site since 914 when Danish invaders erected one to defend the town of Warwick against attack. The castle was later developed by William the Conqueror in 1068. It was still being used by British nobility right up to 1978 when it was then opened to the public as a museum and attraction. Today, you can explore the dungeons which date back to the 1300s or watch jousting re-enactments or breath-taking aerial displays by birds of prey. There is enough to keep visitors occupied for a full day and there are different ticket price options, depending on what you choose to see. For details of ticket prices and what’s included, visit the Warwick Castle website.Explore the surrounding towers and castle ramparts, including the imposing Caesar’s Tower. The lower ground floor of the tower housed its jail and you’ll see graffiti on the walls left by some of its inmates. Inside the castle, you’ll find opulent rooms such as the grand State Dining Room, where Queen Victoria once dined alongside her husband, Prince Albert. Move onto the castle’s dungeons where you’ll meet Moll Bloxham, the resident castle ghost. At Merlin The Dragon Tower, hear the story of legendary wizard, Merlin, the protector of King Arthur.Other daily events to look out for include aerial displays by birds of prey and the raising of the castle’s Port Cullis. During the summer months, there are musical concerts and theatre performances when the castle is transformed into an impressive performance venue. There are evening banquets and re-enactments of jousting tournaments. The castle is set in beautiful grounds, where majestic peacocks roam free. Younger visitors will enjoy the Pageant Playground with its mini castle. br />Warwick Castle is located in the pretty market town of Warwick, 40 minutes away from the centre of Birmingham, by car. There are regular trains to the town from Birmingham Snow Hill and Moor Street stations. The castle is 1.6 km from the station in Warwick.
