It is a nice clean place. But it has a bar right on the first floor and the noise of that comes through to the rooms upstairs. Other than that it was a good place.

Great location, great price. Yes, as others have said, it can get a little noisy due to all the bars around the area especially on a Fri or Sat night. I still slept just fine. I was on the 2nd floor - bathrooms and showers were shared with the entire floor. Even then there were enough so never had to wait. They were clean as well. Towel was provided on request. Considering the price per night, free breakfast was great as well.

Overall a good experience. Ear plugs are a must if you want to get any sleep, particularly at the weekends. I was in a private room but could still hear a lot of noise late at night in the corridors. The private room I was in was near the showers and toilets - great for convenience but not for noise. People were coming and going all day and night. Some guests thought it was appropriate to play music out loud while showering in the middle of the night. The air extractor fans in the showers are on all night as well which can be clearly heard in the bedroom - without ear plugs, I wouldn't have slept. There was a fire alarm at 2am one night. The issue I had was how untrained the staff seemed to be with dealing with this. Some staff, who did not appear to be on duty, were standing behind front desk and told some guests that it was probably fine and we could go back to rooms. The fire people were still investigating and the alarm was still sounding. While it was a false alarm, the off duty staff should not tell guests to go back to their rooms because it was "probably fine" and when the fire people had not given an official all clear. Despite the noise (to be expected in a downtown hostel) and the untrained staff (When it comes to fire alarms), the hostel was overall quite good. A great location, very close to everything you need in Vancouver. The free breakfast was good and the staff were friendly.
