Overall, the resort is well designed although it’s showing it’s age. It’s s due for a major renovation next year. I had an overwater suite, which is large, luxurious, and really well designed. The access to the lagoon works well, I used it everyday to go swimming.
Due to the remoteness of the resort, I had all my meals there. To be honest, they’re no more than adequate, BUT let’s not forget that the place is on its own motu where everything is shipped in by barge or air. So we cannot expect the profusion of ingredients that we are used to in most other places. Even compared to Rangiroa, this place is remote. I came here for nature, not to indulge in gourmet meals.
I took a trip the village one day, using the hotel’s shuttle. The service was impeccable even though it was free.
So why the poor review? Before coming to this resort, I was on Moorea with my sister and we withdrew too much cash. My sister took some when she left for Switzerland. I still had more than 10K francs in my wallet. When I got to the resort, I tried to put it in the room safe, but its batteries were low and it no longer worked. I reported to the front desk, they promised to do something but never did. I didn’t follow up, thinking that this is a luxurious place so theft must be nonexistent. But I was wrong. When I got to Tikehau airport and checked my wallet I found there were only 3K francs left!! I had to withdraw more when I got to Tahiti airport.
A beautiful but marred experience.
