There may not be much in the way of accommodation around Thong Kut fishing village, but its beautiful attractions are worth multiple day trips.
Visitors eager enough to arrive early in the morning can venture down to the bay to watch the fleet of fishing boats heading out for the morning catch. You might end up sampling some of this delicious, freshly-caught fish in Koh Samui’s fine seafood restaurants during lunch or dinner. Or better still, you can try your hand at catching some of your own on fishing excursion.
The waters around the bay are not clean enough to enjoy a swim or any water sports but the pristine islands of Koh Mudsum and Koh Tan are only a short boat trip away. Take a ride on one of the classic Southeast Asian long-style boats, which are recognisable by their high bow and stern, and land on the pure sands of these neighbouring islands. Here you can swim to your heart’s content, and even try out the snorkelling and diving facilities on offer.
If you don’t have long to explore this area, spend some time in Thong Kut village, the key attraction on the southern coast of Koh Samui, and wait until your journey takes you back up to the northern and eastern beaches of the island. They have watersports facilities suitable for all.
Back in Thong Kut, there’s no better way to cap off a fun-filled day than with a cool cocktail. Take a seat at one of the many celebrated restaurants on the sea front and order your tipple of choice then enjoy a long sip as you watch the sun slowly set over the harbour. Some visitors make the journey all the way down the southern coast to try their delights, so don’t miss out on the opportunity. As the fishing boats return, it will nearly be time to head back to your hotel, but with so much to explore around the village, it will be well worth returning for another day.
