Located on Koh Samui’s more exclusive north-eastern coast, this beach boasts upmarket resorts with access to private beaches.
Made up of a series of small bays on the north-eastern tip of the island, Choeng Mun Beach offers tourists the opportunity to forget their worries and relax in top-class villas as well as a number of large and secluded resorts. While a few of the resorts use the main beach, some offer its guests their very own private beachfronts, perfect for those looking for a peaceful and romantic getaway. There is not a whole lot going on outside the hotels as the local town, situated behind the beach, is quite small. But since many guests have access to their own exclusive beaches, there isn’t much incentive to leave in the first place! Still, if you feel like getting out and about, take a trip to the main Choeng Mun Beach, a popular spot with locals and tourists alike. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, go and explore the little island of Koh Fan Noi at the beach’s southern tip by wading through the shallow water, but be warned: The water comes up to waist level or higher at high tide so take care when planning this little excursion.Sports lovers won’t be disappointed as, like many popular beaches in Koh Samui, Choeng Mun Beach also offers a variety of watersports and activities. Go scuba diving along the offshore coral reef, or jet ski or kayak around the islet of Koh Fan Noi.Choeng Mun is known for being more family-oriented than other areas in Koh Samui, clearly demonstrated through the absence of hostess bars in the town. Dinnertime with the kids is also an easier affair as many of the restaurants serve Western favourites.Choeng Mun Beach is in a prime location, offering easy access to both the northern and eastern coasts of Koh Samui. Head south to the calm beaches at Chaweng Noi and Lamai, or venture out west and pay a visit to the Big Buddha.
