The village centre is compact and easy to navigate on foot, centred around the main square where you'll find the local boulangerie and a few small shops. The surrounding streets are lined with traditional stone houses and offer a glimpse into rural French life. It's a peaceful spot, great for those looking to unwind.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find the village of Tarnès ideal. You're perfectly placed for leisurely walks through the vineyards that surround the village, and many local wineries offer tastings. It's also a great base for exploring the nearby Dordogne River, known for its picturesque villages and châteaux.

For families, staying in the village provides easy access to local amenities and a relaxed environment. Children can enjoy the open spaces around the village, and it's a short drive to attractions like the Bergerac Aqua Park or the animal parks in the wider Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

The best time to go to Tarnès is typically during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October).

During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm and generally dry, making it ideal for exploring the vineyards and enjoying outdoor activities without the peak summer crowds. You'll find the countryside lush and green in spring, and in autumn, the grape harvest adds a special charm, with many local events and tastings taking place. These periods offer a comfortable balance of good weather and fewer tourists, allowing for a more relaxed and authentic experience.

Summer (July and August) is also popular, offering warm, sunny days superb for enjoying the local markets and river activities. However, it can be quite hot, and you'll encounter more visitors and higher prices for accommodation.
