"Room was small but bed was comfortable and room was fairly quiet. Location felt safe. Breakfast was not included but there is a restaurant on site. Their empanadas are delicious!! There is a $17/day parking fee that is not included in the price. Did not have a chance to use the pool but it looked clean and well kept. Workout room was great!"

"My Gf and I’s stay was pretty good overall. My main complaint would just be how certain things were maintained. Their elevator was out of order and while that’s not a problem taking the stairs from the 4th floor (where our room is located) to the garage to get some stuff, it can get tiring. Staff were very friendly and the free breakfast was adequate. The room looked very cleaned, however upon entering the room we also noticed one light switch broken. Again, pretty good overall with just a couple minor complaints."

"I have to start by saying that hotel rates in Monterey are extremely high, but this hotel was even less expensive than one Motel 6 I looked at. This hotel has a newer building, and the older "historic" building, where we stayed. The elevator to the historic building wasn't working, so they sent us through the back of the 4th floor of the main building, up a few outdoor stairs, into the old building. I didn't realize that some of the things that we take for granted in a hotel wouldn't be there. For example - there was no mini-fridge. One of my daughters' medications needed refrigeration, so we ended up using an insulated Trader Joe's bag as an ice bag, with ice from the hotel basement. Good thing we aren't on insulin. Maybe the newer building rooms have mini-fridges? If you really need one, ask before booking. The other thing was no USB port to charge my watch. Thankfully, I had charged it at the previous hotel. After 3 days at the Monterey Hotel, it was all but dead by the time we made it home. I think maybe the old building couldn't handle a lot electrically. The hotel has some obvious deferred maintenance, and a very small staff of hardworking people wearing a lot of hats. The bellmen are also the valet drivers, and even the repair men when the faucet in my daughters' room malfunctioned. However, I really commend the staff for being so upbeat, welcoming and helpful. It was kind of like staying with an old friend whose house is kind of shabby, but clean and welcoming."

"The room was a Little outdated, I personally don’t like the fake eggs they serve, but they have more options to choose from. Love the special coffee machine. Friendly staff. Not a great choice for the price I paid this time."

"Was very close to the custom house plaza. Had a good amount of stores and food places around it. Very easy to get to and the staff were on top of everything would definitely go back. Room was spacious and clean"

"We had a great stay at the Colton Inn. Large clean room with a big comfortable bed. Basic breakfast but perfectly adequate. Easy parking at the hote in a safe part of town within walking distance of Fishermans wharf and several bars, restaurants and supermarket. There was no air conditioning but this was unnecessary in early May. "

"Don't go by the pictures!!! This was the worst place I have ever stayed and I have stayed at a lot of places. Filthy room, hair in the skin and on the pillows, the tub was dirty, the sheets had stains, the window lock was broken and the screen was hanging off, there was inches of dust all over the edges and light fixtures and the sheer's were shredded. The room as very old which is normally ok, but nothing worked properly. The fireplace was broken, the water dribbled in the sink & shower and nothing, not even the ice bucket had been replaced since the 1960"s. The outside is just as dilapidated as the inside and the parking is very tight. If you have a full sized pick up, you wont fit it in one parking spot. We came back from dinner and the spots that were left we could not fit in because the other trucks & SUV's had to take up two spots. We went with another couple and their room was even worse then ours! We spoke with the lady at the front desk and she said because they were booked, they didn't have time to check the rooms. She apologized and told us that's all she can do is say she's sorry. We asked to speak with the manager and she said the manager was not in and she didn't know his name or have his number??? It was so bad that we didn't want to stay there, but all the nearby hotels/motels were sold out because of the events taking place that weekend. We had to stay there for the night so we slept on top of the bed in our cloths and jackets. It was terrible!!!"
