We went on a half day tour organised the day before at a nearby hostel near the train station. I highly recommend this tour. The tour guide was lovely, with great English and he shared lots of info about the area on the way there. The village itsef was amazing. Dress warmly with waterproof boots with good grip if going in winter. Most places there only accept cash. The Kanda and Wada houses are recommended, as is the Nigase home.
