"The apartment was spacious, even with the extra bed they kindly put up for us so that our son could visit. Don't under estimate the steepness of the climb to the apartment! We walked up in the rain from the train station with luggage. The short cut paths will save you some time but the cobbles are very slippy when wet. However the view from the balcony when the rain cleared made it worthwhile, it must be the best view we have ever had from a holiday home!Our only issue was the bed, it was creaky and not comfortable at all for us. A new bed and bedding would give the apartment 5 stars."

"We stayed for two nights and the experience was shockingly poor. We had the Do Not Disturb sign on the door from the beginning, but hotel personnel entered while we were out, moved our personal belongings and threw away papers I had placed with my medication. Another occurrence while we were sleeping in the afternoon a male staff member entered the room without knocking and walked all the way to the bed, and after realising he said he had the wrong room. This is the staff who’s usually at the entrance and helps with parking, probably he wanted to clear or help with luggage for another room.. Around 20–30 minutes later, another housekeeping staff member entered again, probably for cleaning or who knows why despite the same Do Not Disturb sign!! Unacceptable! The personnel has no sense of being cautious and at leat knock. Instead they all just to barge in! The room also could not be locked from the inside, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. We reported everything to reception immediately, but there was no proper follow-up, no real apology from management and no gesture at checkout. Felt like they didn’t really care. The room was decent, but the staff training, privacy standards and guest safety were completely unacceptable for a hotel in this price range. I would not stay here again and do not recommend."

"Only a few spots for parking, but nice and close to the train station. Amazing an helpful staff, who new good Englishand were ready to help all the time. Amazing breakfast as well. I would say spend the extra money and get the lake facing view. "

"Wonderful helpful and friendly staff. Immaculate room. Great restaurant. Location was more difficult to access the Port than we expected. The trail was not as easy as we thought although we walked it down to the port. . Rita was very helpful and picked us up from the port one night, the other two nights we took a taxi. "

"Amazing views of Varenna & Lake Como. Good size room with kitchen, living room, bath & laundry area. Could easily sleep 4. Heating worked well. Plenty of parking. WiFi and TV was inconsistent. Bedding and decor was just average, could be way more wow to match the view. Had only a single roll of toilet paper and fridge wasn’t plugged in properly. We had to troubleshoot with the host to fix it. Feels like a family run property, more than a proper hotel. Biggest issue is that its location absolutely requires a car. Without it, it would take 40 minutes to walk steep switchbacks to get to town. Should be stated very clearly upfront. Had to rent a car at the last minute when we realized that taxis and buses to town are scarce, infrequent or nonexistent. The need for a car probably inflated our stay budget about 80% so it might have been better to stay in town. Net net, I would say I’d probably stay here again but would need to adjust my expectations. Prob works well for families or those with cars. But it was a last minute surprise when the 0.31 miles away from Varenna isn’t actually walkable, especially in rain or with multiple bags"
