The best area to stay in San Cristobal is the historic Old Town, particularly around the Praza do Obradoiro and the surrounding streets.

This neighbourhood is the heart of San Cristobal and is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its stunning Romanesque and Gothic architecture. The Praza do Obradoiro is dominated by the cathedral and is a natural focal point, with many of the city's main attractions, such as the Hostal dos Reis Católicos and the Pazo de Raxoi, just a short walk away. The streets here are pedestrian-friendly and packed with traditional Galician restaurants, tapas bars, and artisan shops.

Couples will find the Old Town particularly appealing due to its romantic cobblestone streets and the ease of exploring on foot. You can enjoy strolls through the Alameda Park with views of the cathedral, or simply relax at one of the many cafes, soaking in the historic surroundings. The area offers a sophisticated experience with high-quality dining and accommodation options.

For travellers who appreciate a quieter setting but still want to be close to the main attractions, the area just outside the Old Town walls, particularly to the south, offers a good balance. Here you'll find modern hotels with amenities like parking, often just a 10-15 minute walk from the Praza do Obradoiro.

The best time to go to San Cristobal is during the summer months, from June to September, for the most consistently pleasant weather.

During this period, you can expect warm, sunny days, which are ideal for enjoying the coastal activities and exploring the natural beauty of the region. The average temperatures hover around 20-25°C, making it comfortable for outdoor excursions and swimming in the Atlantic. This is also when the local festivals and events are in full swing, offering a glimpse into Galician culture.

For those who prefer a quieter experience and cooler temperatures, late spring (May) or early autumn (October) can also be wonderful. The weather is still generally mild, fewer crowds mean you can enjoy the beaches and walking trails with more tranquility, and prices for accommodation and activities tend to be lower. While there's a higher chance of rain, it's often intermittent, allowing for plenty of sunshine.
