Prince of Wales Theatre featuring heritage elements, street scenes and a city
In the heart of London’s lively West End district is this 19th-century theatre, which has a year-round schedule of popular musicals.

Book tickets for a show at the Prince of Wales Theatre and experience the exciting atmosphere of London’s theatre district. Watch performances of award-winning hit musicals, many of which star well-known actors. Be amazed by the impressive stage settings and the singing and dancing talents of the performing artists. Enjoy pre-show drinks at one of the theatre’s two bars.

The Prince of Wales Theatre opened in 1884 as a modest theatre with a capacity of 1,000 audience members. Its earliest hit production was the comic opera Dorothy starring Marie Tempest. It went on to become one of longest-running shows of the era. In 1937, actress Gracie Fields laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the present art deco-style building.

From the mid-20th century, the theatre became a stage for popular musicals. In the late 1990s it was a venue for Barry Manilow’s Copacabana, West Side Story and Rent, the latter a tale of a group of penniless actors living in New York’s East Village. Shows that graced the stage in the early-2000s include The Witches of Eastwick and Cliff – The Musical, a musical biopic of British singer Sir Cliff Richard. Mamma Mia!, based on the life of Swedish pop band Abba, ran for almost a decade.

Since 2013, the theatre has hosted the multiple Tony award-winning satirical comedy The Book of Mormon. It follows the adventures of Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda in an attempt to convert the local residents to the Mormon faith.

Mingle with fellow theatergoers before, during and after the shows. Sip on a cocktail, cold beer, glass of wine or soft drink at the two bars, located in the dress circle and stalls.

Situated in London’s West End, the theatre is just a 2-minute walk from Piccadilly Circus Tube station. Parking is available for a fee at nearby Newport Place and Whitcomb Street.

Evening shows at the Prince of Wales Theatre take place from Monday to Saturday matinees are held on Wednesday and Saturday. Purchase your tickets via the theatre’s official website or at the box office, which opens from Monday to Saturday.
