Indulge your wildest consumer desires with a trip to one of the most famous shopping streets in all of Asia.
Clocking in at around 2 kilometres in length, Orchard Road runs right through the centre of Singapore and teems with designer brands, boutiques, shopping centres and more flagship stores than you can shake a stick at. And, once you get tired of the shopping (if that's even possible), there is also a wealth of eateries, entertainment and historic attractions to suit everyone.First stop for most visitors to Orchard Road is the DFS Galleria, the area's duty-free shopping centre. Popular amongst tourists looking for a tax-free bargain, the likes of Hermès, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Prada have all set up shop here in addition to their locations out on the main street. Other world-famous brands such as Armani, Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana are located a little way up the road at the ION Orchard. The street's largest shopping centre is Ngee Ann City. As well as a variety of great clothing shops, this centre is also home to the second-largest bookshop in South-East Asia.If you need a break from splashing the cash or just fancy a chance to recharge for round 2, you could head to the peaceful Singapore Botanic Gardens located just nearby. For something a bit more substantial, grab some food in one of the area's many modern cafés and restaurants. Somewhat surprisingly, the plentiful shopping centre food courts are some of the best places to source the traditional local cuisine with its Indian, Malay and Chinese influences.Orchard Road is situated in Singapore city centre and is well-served by public transport. As well as being on numerous bus routes, the area is also served by the Orchard MTR station. This is probably the easiest way to get here, as local parking is at a premium, and mostly involves a charge. Orchard Road shops each keep their own opening hours, though most are open seven days a week.
