I will start by saying that the property itself is not bad (not perfect, but not bad). The experience was not good from day one primarily because of the host’s complete lack of contact, which made the entire party, and some of my family in the area suspicious that we had been scammed.
We received no welcome email or anything the day we were to check in, which was a nightmare in terms of getting there from the airport (the taxi driver wanted confirmation of where we were going before taking us to the address, and the fact that we had no phone number or contact, and no confirmation of how to get in the home was hard for first time travelers to the island). After begging the cab driver to take us anyway, we literally had to go rifling around the house and found the key in the mailbox, which immediately created a bad taste for some of the party.
We get inside, and the house looks as advertised, though the refrigerator does have a significant leak coming from the ice dispenser, which we had to watch since we had 3 children with us (wanted to prevent slip/fall accidents in the kitchen.
As we tried to settle in, we find that 3 of the four ACs on the hosting floor are not working, and one of the ACs on the bedroom floors doesn’t work. The neighbor, who used to manage the place for the host (who is remote) came over to check in on us as we were settling in (or maybe to check that we belonged there thinking about how we had to come in)…. So glad he did. We couldn’t figure out Wi-Fi (he helped with that), told us who to call about the dysfunctional ACs, and advised that he no longer works with the property for personal reasons (side eye moment number two).
The host’s house manager and maintenance folks come over, and were nice enough, but both people came with their children or others, which was not comfortable given the amount of folks walking around the house who had no purpose being there.
Host NOW starts responding to messages, noting that he had a personal situation he was dealing with. Understandable, but still irresponsible way of handling us. By now, we had to figure our way into the house, had the neighbor come over and help us with some setting up, and then call for repair guy for non operational ACs. By the end of the day, all ACs still weren’t working, and some would not be working for the duration of the stay (one week).
We decided to cancel our stay and go to a hotel. Can’t say more as I’m at limit, but if you can go elsewhere, do.
