We needed a hotel room for one night at the spur of the moment near Penn Station. The Doxie was four blocks away, room rate was reasonable, and it was convenient to the subway. The hotel was small as were the rooms which is typical of older hotels, but the staff were attentive, the rooms were clean, and the location was safe. The rooms have been updated with contemporary decor and have typical amenities of any room -digital TV, wireless, comfortable beds (we had a twin room), good lighting, new bathroom fixtures, fridge, and coffee maker. I would classify this hotel as a good value.

This was a great option for the price. Location is convenient and it WAS clean. Our room was small and basically windowless, which was fine for a one night stay. Given the scaffolding on the street it was easy to miss the entrance.
