Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

"First of all, great location! Center of town between wharf and Alvarado street, we could walk pretty much everywhere. Plenty of shops and places to eat that were great. Upon arrival, Bell was very helpful. Walking in, the lobby had an off putting sewer smell that either went away or got accustomed to. Check in staff was not too friendly but did her job I guess. Stay: room and areas were keep well and felt very comfortable. There was a scheduled power outage that was not relayed until day of. Was not provided correct information that led to a less than comfortable night, however the property did make up for it. Parking was convenient. Overall, we had a very good stay at Portola. Staff could be a bit more friendly ."

"The room was clean. Balcony few was decent. I was only on the 4th floor but was nice. Breakfast was very good and exceeded my expectations. The ready to order omelet station was very excellent."

"Room was very clean, and staff was helpful. It was a good stay overall; only reason I didn’t give five stars was it was a bit noisy with people walking in front of the room, and planes started taking off from the nearby airport before 6 (airport noise an issue for all the nearby hotels). Hotel does provide complimentary, sealed earplugs but that’s uncomfortable for me. I think if the rooms had better sound insulation it would be a 5 star based on value."
