"Our experience was perplexing from the start, with directions so inadequate that we had to ask the way. When we arrived I was attacked by geese at large in the grounds. Despite profuse apologies from the owner's wife, and the geese then confined to a wired pen, the owner said he wouldn't be lectured, walking away when I offered some advice on the facilities. There was no TV, no WiFi connection facilitated, no freezer compartment in the fridge, not even a teapot or breadbin. To compound our...

"It was a great stay and very well presented with a good selection of breakfast, bar food and drinks. The room was clean when arrived and staff are very friendly. Would recommend the hotel and I would come back. The room was a-bit small than excepted but overall a great experience! Thank you "
"Breakfast menu was quite lean on the cold/continental menu but had varied with the hot food.
Could do better with the continental breakfast section.
Take note that parking isn’t free or complimentary."
"We booked a room with a patio, knowing the weather was going to be good, so it was lovely to be able to sit outside and look at the beautiful scenery. It was midweek during the Easter school break but the spa facilities were quiet which was nice and we swam and sunbathed 2 days in a row. Restaurant was good including breakfast and dinner. Staff all lovely. "
"Overall the property is very good. Very polite, friendly and helpful staff. The reception and common areas are impressive. However, the condition of the room was not great, in fact it did not meet Marriott standards. "
"We stayed as a small family during the Easter holidays, mainly to use the pool and spa facilities, with the hotel’s proximity to Gloucester Docks (around 2.5 km) also a key reason for booking.
Overall, the experience was mixed.
On arrival, our room had issues—most notably the shower. The bath–shower mixer tap diverter didn’t work, and water pressure was extremely poor, to the point even a bath was just a trickle. At £120 midweek (without breakfast), this didn’t feel good overall value.
That said, the sole reception staff member was excellent. After a couple of prompts, and while clearly managing the desk alone, he moved us to a suite around 9pm, resolving the issue before bedtime. He also explained the water system is quite old, which may account for the pressure.
The pool and spa were clean and functional—the sauna and steam room were up to temperature, and the gym well equipped—but overall felt dated and didn’t match expectations set by the price and photos.
We didn’t use the restaurant/bar on the evening or for breakfast- there were no evident menus beyond an A4 printout, and pricing felt high; it was empty whenever we walked past.
More generally, the hotel doesn’t match the polished Expedia photos. It looked dated, and even after the room change, the amenities and bedding were below expectations, particularly compared to Premier Inn.
In summary, excellent staff, but the property and value for money unfortunately fell short"
"A great spot to enjoy some of the Cotswolds Way. Massive comfy bed and strong shower, although a bit let down by an old bath and cheap, clingy shower curtain. Nice bar area, friendly staff, and OK food. Good value breakfast, as you get continental plus a hot menu included. However, the full English I had was below par (definitely seemed pre-prepared rather than freshly made), but some of the other items looked better. "
