Quiet, Simple, and Surrounded by Trees Au Sable Backwaters Mio

"The cabin's in a good location for getting out on the AuSable or exploring the area. As others mentioned, it's not really in the woods, but tucked into a heavily wooded area with a bunch of other homes/cabins, sort of a cottage area feel. That said, the neighborhood is off the beaten path and fairly quiet, even during the daytime hours, but especially at night. The cabin itself is cozy, enough space for two or three if using the futon. The bathroom is larger than it looks, but note that the interior walls don't go all the way to the ceilings (including the bathrm), so "privacy" is a little less so. :-)The kitchen had enough stuff to suffice, and all the essentials were well-stocked. The parking was not as cramped as others have suggested, it's sort of a circle drive. If you have multiple vehicles (we had a full-size pickup and SUV), you may just need to shuffle spots if you don't want to back out of a rather snug entrance. Not a biggie at all.Our host Beth was great and very responsive. A pleasant stay all around."

"Mark and Dawn were easy to work with especially since this was my first VRBO rental and I had a lot of questions. The cabin is cozy and clean and the bubbling brook is so relaxing. We enjoyed our stay!"
Cottage right on the AuSable River in charming Mio

"Really amazing location on what is effectively a lake because of the dam a couple miles down river. We arrived on a Monday and didn't see another person on the water the whole day, though Tuesday and Wednesday saw a little boat traffic. The paddle boat was defunct as far as we could tell, but there were two kayaks, which we prefer. The hot tub is nice, with a string of lights to plug in in the evening and a great view of the lake. We enjoyed Mio and made use of the Hinchman Acres boat rental to take an 11 mile trip (the shortest they offer!) down the Au Sable, but we enjoyed our time paddling around the "pond" just as much."

"Would not recommend staying here in the summer. I knew there was no air conditioning in the listing but thought being on the lake, at night, with the windows open, it wouldn't be a problem. The problem is, the bedroom windows were sealed shut, and it was 78-80 degrees in the house even with the patio doors open. I politely asked the owners if they could turn the air on (there are units) and the reply was a sarcastic response about how I didn't read the listing. Speaking of the listing, the photos are deceptive. The lake looks more like a swamp right now, and the photos conveniently left out all the deer and antlers on the walls. Also, 4 towels for three people for four nights was inconvenient. The listing says one of the bedrooms had two queens, which isn't the case.Over all, good price but didn't know we'd be sweltering all night without the windows opening."

"The property is beautiful and very serene. Love the country atmosphere and the chickens add a country flair as well. The home is equipped with everything you need and also plenty of outlets and adaptors. Very clean. Air conditioning is nice. There is a little store about 5-7 minutes away. Host was available with answers to questions if you need them answered. We would definitely consider staying again. We had a family reunion for the weekend and it was just around the corner from the home so that was ideal."

"We had a wonderful stay! The house was beautiful, clean, and very family-friendly. The pool was a huge plus, and having the kayaks and paddle boat available made our time on the lake even more fun. There were some issues with the hot tub during our stay, but the host communicated with us throughout and was very responsive. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely stay here again!"
