Miami Beach, also known as Enterprise Beach, is a beach of two halves, located just 11 kilometres south of Bridgetown. It has calm waters on the one side and ocean swell on the other. During the week, Miami Beach is peaceful and uncrowded. On the western end, calm waters and rock pools with small fish, crabs and sea roaches provide interest and safe swimming for younger visitors. In the morning, join the locals as they exercise on the sand. After you’ve worked up a sweat, cool off with a splash in the shallows and soak up the sunshine in safety. Throughout the day, this beach has enough space for families to relax, play and picnic in peace. At the eastern end of the beach, the ocean swells creating just the right conditions to try out bodyboarding. Even if you’re an experienced surfer, Miami Beach has enough wave action to keep you interested. When conditions are right, you’ll find some of the best surfing in Barbados.Back on dry land, enjoy the feel of the soft coral sand between your toes as you walk along the beach to the South Point Lighthouse. Built in 1852, it once guided ships around the island en route to South America and is now a beautiful spot to admire the colours of the landscape. Or walk just round the corner to Oistins fishing town to see fishing boats landing their catch and local people making nets. Stay at Oistins on a Friday and Saturday night and you’ll be in for a treat: the Fish Fry. With fried and grilled fish, macaroni pie and sweet potato, it’s a favourite with locals and visitors.Venture inland from the beach to the public Barbados Golf Club and play all 18 holes in the gently rolling green countryside - it’s also another great way to enjoy the sun.Back on the beach, enjoy a picnic in the shade of a tropical tree, or buy snacks from a converted bus and other stands. Delicacies to look out for include grilled seafood, pumpkin fritters and roti, and a refreshing local drink made from moss growing in the rock pools.
