We stayed here for a night on our way to Yosemite. Such a lovely hotel to stay. It’s full of character and the rooms were super comfy and clean. There are a few dinner options nearby and the breakfast at the in-house restaurant was great.

This place was real nice but the train blaring it's horn at all hours wasn't ideal.

Valet was awesome! Check was easy, room comfortable. Dont charge for water and get ice on every floor or better signs

In downtown Merced, you’re lucky to not get mugged.
But the El Capitan is an excellent hotel with great staff.

Clean rooms. Rude staff at desk that denied Expedia gave me free valet parking although it clearly was in details. Also, if I go to have a glass of wine, I don’t want to hear the bartender complaining about how she was reprimanded for wearing her Gaza pin and how she supports Hamas. I just wanted to enjoy myself.

It is regrettable that the service from a couple of our colleagues did not meet your expectations and the level of professionalism that we strive for. We continue to work on our customer service skills to ensure every guest has a pleasant stay.
Very nice room. When we arrived there was a crumpled washcloth on the floor. Called the desk and they immediately came with 2 clean washcloths.
We had dinner in the Rainbird in the hotel. The food (mushroom risotto and beet salad) was excellent. So was the bread!
Server (Jerome H) was very attentive and professional.

Very friendly staff starting with the valet. Parked my over sized van for me with a smile. Front desk was great. Pointed me to a few great restaurants only a couple minutes walk away. Room was much better than I thought. Big tv and very comfortable bed and pillows. Shower could have had a little more power but was nice. Will definitely return if business brings me back.

Loved this hotel character and location. The staff were very nice and helpful. The location is great and there are many restaurants and stores nearby.

El Capitan was a great place for my daughter and I to stay while she was making a campus visit to UC Merced. It was easy to find off the freeway but far enough away to not be inundated with road noise. We loved the artwork and furnishings, and the rooms had everything we needed for an overnight stay. The staff were helpful and friendly and the area around the hotel had an old town charm with various shops and wall murals to decorate our ambulations.

The parking is a pain, and they have no where to just get a quick snack, no vending machines. You have to actually order stuff at the cafe.
