The beach is located atthe end of a runway and lies exactly in the landing path of jumbo jets arrivingat Princess Juliana International Airport. At intervals throughout the day, thejets pass over the heads of beachgoers on Maho Beach with less than 30 metresbetween them. Most people find a safedistance from which to photograph the approaching jet, but some thrill-seekerscan find a spot directly underneath a jet’s landing path to feel the jet blastas it lands. Be careful when coming into close contact with a jumbo jethowever, as jet blast can cause serious injury if people are blown over.
Afterexperiencing a close encounter with a jet, wander along the shoreline and takea dip in the warm Caribbean ocean. Plenty of locals and visitors set upbarbecues on the beach and cook up some lunch. Rent a grill from a vendor, orgrab some food or a souvenir from one of the local vendors that pass by thebeach. Hire some watersports equipment from beach vendors to hit the surf whilejets rumble overhead.
