We really enjoyed our stay Santa Maria Hostel. The staff was very helpful and nice and our room was newly renovated and very clean. It's an easy walk to many things and we were able to find parking somewhat close for our rental car. The location can be quite noisy at night, but that didn't bother us.

Lovely looking hostel with super friendly and helpful staff. Very central and close to all amenities. Their restaurant also serves very tasty and lovely presented food. I am pleased we stayed there and would choose it for our stay again.

Central, clean and very comfy!
Immaculately clean! Our room was spotless with very comfy beds and soft linens We didnt use the kitchen but its a good size and looks like it has everything you need. There is laundry access and a little attic mezanine with sofas and a tv if you want somewhere to hang out. Excellent central location right in the center of the action with oodles of bars and restaurants on your doorstep - about 3 mins from the cable car and the main bus area as well and just minutes from the sea and waterfront The staff were warm, friendly and very helpful with lots of local knowledge. It is of course a hostel so theres a little noise from other guests but nothing to dwell on. (Worth noting theres stairs up to the reception and to the first floor so be mindful if you've got bad knees! 😂) We loved our stay here and I plan on booking here again for my mum when she comes to visit!

I had a really nice time in this hostel. The staff is super nice, it's very conveniently located and clean. As a solo female traveller I felt very safe in the city and at this hostel (in a mixed dorm).

As solo traveler I stayed in the “Blue dormitory” where the old wooden floor is very noisy and the beds are very weak - you can feel every single movement of the person above or beyond you. It’s a big old house in historic centre of the city.

It is a beautiful property and very well located in the old town. They also have a restaurant serving excelent food. They give a discount of 10% to guests of the hostel. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly.

Very unique historic old school building . Spacious ,very clean , outstanding service and extremely friendly staff great kitchen area You are right in the heart of the busy bar ,restaurant area . Great morning breakfast of all you can eat really beautiful garden

Location was great, however it was very difficult to sleep. The noise from the outside restaurant and bars kept us up all night. I did not get one good night sleep while staying here.

This was one of the most lovely places I have stayed. It is warm, friendly, in the the best part of town, close to the sea and beach front. The Rua Saint Maria comes alive at night, with door to door dinning and fun, and the hostel open straight into it. It’s easily accessable to town centre, busses, the cable car, museums and the botanical gardens. And best of all: cake! Freshly baked everyday, free for all just waiting to be eaten in the kitchen, looking out onto a beautiful courtyard area where you eat your breakfast. This is a lovely hostel, I would encourage anyone visiting this beautiful place to stay here.

Great value for money
Staying in a dorm in a hostel obviously wasn't going to be the same as staying in a 5star hotel but the hostel was clean and very friendly and there was a wonderful cake in the kitchen every day. Staying in a dorm is a great way to meet other travellers from all over the world. Only downside is that it can be noisy as it is on a street full of restaurants so worth purchasing earplugs from reception.

Beautiful hostel....really like a boutique hotel
So much nicer than any pictures or description could show. An old school building lovingly converted into a gorgeous hostel/boutique hotel in the heart of town by people with a phenomenal artistic eye. My private double room was much nicer than many hotel rooms I've stayed in, everything was spotless, wonderful backyard garden/restaurant, fully-stocked kitchen, freely baked free cake everyday, and super friendly staff.

Madeira
The hostel is very well located, the staff unique, friendly, accommodating and very helpful. It is clean and safe. If you want peace and quiet it might not be your place because there are lots of restaurants nearby, including the one in the hostel, and they are all busy until midnight. I had a great time there and YES I will recommend it to as many people as possible

Great hostel close to the city and promenade
I stayed in Santa Maria hostel for 7 nights and my experience is very good. Saff was very helpful and friendly. Great food in the reastaurant below. I would recomend to everyone who is travelling alone or with friends. Fabulous for a hostel.

Look past the 'Hostel' in the name!
A warm greeting and lovely stay. Perfectly located in the old town in the middle of the buzz of a range of restaurants and shopping near by. I stayed in the Embroidery Suite. The room was large and exactly as it was shown in the online pictures.

Très bien placé personnel au top Idéal pour tout départ d’excursions centre ville bus boulangerie au pied de l’auberge . Gare routière . À deux pas de toutes les manifestations pour le festival des fleurs 🌸. Seul bémol les nuisances sonores. Quand vous réservez surtout précisez une chambre privée ou en dortoir mais pas côté rue au besoin tel avant de boucler votre réservation. J’avais une chambre parfaite mais côté rue donc peu dormi c’est la seule chose que j’avais oublié de préciser. Car en bas dans toute la rue il n’y a que des restaurants autant vous dire que c’est la fiesta jusqu’à 1h voir plus … J’ai pourtant sollicité une autre chambre … mais impossible j’ai du composer durant presque deux semaines ! Il y a une cuisine commune qui permet de cuisiner avec un frigo . Et des sanitaires communs .

Super emplacement et édifice avec beaucoup de cachet. La suite est abordable et spacieuse et munie d’un lit long très confortable. La division est originale, mais laisse peu de place à l’intimité avec la baignoire dans la chambre. J’y retournerais, en solo.

Superb location
The hostel is located on a busy street but it's right in the center of old Town and everything you need. I could sleep well when I slept past 23, when the restaurant below closes. The place is really clean. I do miss a freezer and having some real wine glasses (not plastic) in the kitchen.

Absolute finest most charming Youth Hostel, and (my) also my⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the Santa Maria restaurent. But much action in the street below til 1.30 at night even monday/tuesdays late november. If active days- get room towards the garden.

Originelle , liebevoll eingerichtete Unterkunft mitten in der Altstadt. Deshalb auch zeitweise laut und sehr lebendig. Idealer Standort da Nähe Busstation. Alles ist gut erreichbar.

Merci pour ton commentaire. Nous sommes une auberge de jeunesse et, à ce titre, nous partageons des chambres, tout comme des chambres privées. Le bâtiment était autrefois une école qui a été rénovée, mais comme il s’agit d’un bâtiment historique et reconnu, une grande partie de la structure a dû être conservée. Conservations au nom de toute l’équipe.
